 ebay/paypal question
So I've been debating listing my 1968 Vox Viper guitar on ebay for the last month. I have several guitars and I'm in desperate need of a new iMac. I know it could at least fetch the money I need and more but I've stalled listing it. Here's why:
About 5 months ago I sold something on ebay and it was near the end of the month. Rarely selling on ebay I failed to realize the debit card I had on file was old. The debit card was from a time when ebay did not force you to do automatic billing like they do now. Anyhow they tried to do the automatic process because it was near the end of the month (usually I just made one time payments within a few days of the auction being over) and they got all bent it didn't go through.
Now in order to sell they're forcing me to do the automatic billing which I never do. I never do it because I'm the only one I want going into my bank account. I tried the ID Verify but get this... even if you can prove that it's you via drivers license, SS Card, and past three addresses, they want a major CC card. Since I don't believe in those either I'm shit out of luck.
So finally my point of all this is. If I do give them my debit card does that give them the right to go into my account whenever they want (since they own paypal as well) if there is a dispute? I've had issues in the past with people trying to scam me disputing condition etc. 100 dollar toy is one thing but I'm not getting my account frozen for a 1500 guitar.

 Re: ebay/paypal question
Chris, I know this may be a pain in the ass but you may want to create a new checking account at your bank dedicated to stuff dealing with ebay/ paypal.
This way you will have a separate account that fits all ebays/ paypals rules and wont have to worry about them going into your everyday account if something where to go wrong.
I have a friend who is just like you when it comes to dealing with issue like banking and CC. Once he did this he was happy and never had a problem.
I may be doing this myself soon as well.

Thanks Rich, yeah I've been thinking of doing that for awhile now myself. It's funny in the modern age how money never really exchanges through your hands anymore. I can count on one hand the times I've had actual cash on me in the last year. I also have direct deposit for my paycheck so I can't mess with that either. I think creating a new account for my direct deposit would probably be the easier route because my current checking account is tied in with my paypal also.
Oh and another question should I establish this new account with another bank altogether?

LOL. Next time you hear from me it will be on the news crashing a car into a government building with a machete in one hand and a uzi in the other! Bearded of course. Like that scene in Slacker where they find the post cards that tell the story of a guy who went missing on the floor. That's so my life...

 Re: ebay/paypal question
Yeah I have different accounts for my paypal/online purchases and regular dealings, both debit, different banks. Don't like the whole credit card thing either. When things come up it makes it easier because their isn't random funds being transferred, just my online and paypal transactions, which makes things easier to dispute with the bank, I would recommend going that route.
