Post Netflix for wii
The netflix streaming discs are now shipping for Wii! I idk how much I will use it but this could be a good thing since I don't have any other device at the moment that can do it. Yeah I know there isn't Hd support.

It works really well, I don't have anything else for streaming right now and got the disc friday night. Its especially great for just streaming a tv show when I want to waste 20 minutes on the couch.

I use it on the PS3 - I imagine the Wii version isn't too different.

For the most part, quality is good but occasionally you'll get something that is too pixelated to be watched. I assume those need to be re-transcoded or maybe it's just a different data center hosting it because I can usually pull up a different show/movie and be good. It's seems to be not quite regular DVD quality but not awful either.

PS3 does do HD and that comes out really nice (720 vs 1080). Apparently Netflix has an exclusive deal w/ MS that ends sometime in 2010 and then you should see it built in through a firmware update and you won't have to throw a disc in. Not a huge deal but one more thing to do and that disc spinning does contribute some addt'l noise (no more than any other DVD/BR though).

I don't know what percent of their material is available for streaming but it's not the majority. They save tons of money delivering that way though so I'm sure there's going to be more rather than less in the future - deals and agreements w/ movie studios and networks are the limiting factor there.

Definitely order the disc - it's free - or at least it was on the PS3.

Enjoy it :)

They've added tons of stuff in the past few months, new release etc for streaming. The wii actually streams better than my laptop does and everything has looked great on my tv.

I use the PS3 one frequently. Sometimes quality is good, sometimes its bad. but i have a slow cable connection. I watch a lot of dumb horror movies because they are available on netflix instant stream.

They've added a ton of TV shows lately. Makes me want to move one of the gaming systems into my office so I can stream shows in the background while I work.

So does the Wii support HD streaming?

I believe the Wii just does 480p - so Netflix or not, you've got Standard Def.

Check out the Roku HD for a cheap Netflix HD streaming device. They've got a 30 day money back guarantee. I had one to check out (so I wouldn't have to turn on the PS3 w/ its increased power demands and noise) - I never got HD out of it though but also didn't keep it long. I'm guessing that's because the PS3 has a better WiFi receiver. If you were closer to your router or ran an ethernet connection into it, I would imagine I would have got HD.

I'm going to try it out on the Wii - just to check it out. The PS3 stream is pretty good with the hi-def stuff.

The XBOX version is awesome, no disc needed, but I ordered the Wii disc anyway to check it.

Amen. I hope at some point they make all content available instantly. Such a great service, especially paired with cable internet. I'm sure the Wii version will be just as awesome, despite it's lack of HD.

That will never happen. They are already paying tons for the licensing for what they do have up, and have bowed to some major studies to not make new dvds available when they come out to "force" more people to purchase them if they want to see them in their first month of dvd release.

That's definitely understandable. For under $10 a month, I can't complain if I have to wait 24 hours for my DVD to arrive in the mail.

Love streaming on my ps3. Haven't tried the wii yet but I've found that component cables do help with wii's standard definition video on an HDTV.
