If I could stop buyings toys for just a month, I'd have myself a PS3. It's on my “to do” list. Believe it or not I only want one to play NHL 09 24-7. I'd have to be the Bruins though loaf...

nhl09 has a made up Montreal 100 team since it is the Habs anniversay. kinda cool with beliveau, the richards, robinson, shutt, lafluer, dryden, and a bunch of others. back in 04, i was playing a few games during lunch versus one of our swedish guys. we had to stop cause the other swede said i need to let him win cause he becomes very unproductive when i kick his ass...which was everytime. farjestad was no match for the blanc, bleu, et rouge. crazy swede thought he had a chance

well, i pretty much havent played an NHL game since SNES, so i may get an ass whippin too. i'm trying to track down a cheapish copy of it on ebay

I've had my PS3 for a while now and love it!

First off, no matter what kind you have, upgrade the hard drive! you can go as high as 250GB, which is what I did for a mere $60.

After that, I'd recommend both PlayOn's media server and or PS3 Media Server. PlayOn allows you to watch Hulu, Adult Swim, Netflix, etc. without having to go through a browser.

The PS3 Media server basically allows you to access any file on your computer via the Media Bar - so get your photos, MP3 and video files going! I watch the HD .mkv files for TV shows like "Fringe" and lemme tell ya, anime (if you like it) just kills!

Vuze for mac actually can serve as a media server. works really well once i set it up

ah - didn't know you were on a Mac! I came across that other app before and heard some good stuff about it.

I don't know if you knew, but you can also "register" DIVX and then play divx through the PS3. check it out here = this is a slow loading page, as is with any of the DIVX sites for some reason.

oh...thanks for that DIVX link. i'll have to try it when i get home so i can watch some anime. as far as upgrading the HD, it doesn't look like PS3 recognizes an external HD. i have a 1TB external and plugged it in via USB. PS3 saw nothing
i might have to opt for a HD swap but not sure how i'm going to transfer existing files off the PS3.

Well, it actually CAN read the HD, however PS3 runs FAT so you'd have to partition the 1TB drive down.

you can actually move the trophies over to the PSN and then the only thing you might lose would be any saved data. Depending on this you might be able to use a smaller drive.

This is the HD I ordered. You can't go any higher than 250GB and you really want a 7800RPM drive. It came down to either this or a Western Digital and the Seagate had a faster access time. Which you will notice right away. Games install and load faster, the HD is wwwaaayyy quieter too.

i got PS3 Media Server running last night and it is awesome. divx files galore!

i had to get an older version since i do not have an intel based mac, so hopefully that won't be an issue




also, i just got MLB'08 The Show from an ebay auction. the reviews seemed to say that '08 and '09 were about the same, so i saved 45 bucks and got last year's version!

can't wait to go play it when i finally get out of this hellish workday/week

I don't understand why I can't play some videos...even though there is another of the same format. I'm thinking I might have to switch from using Windows Media Player's share option (which has worked really well except for this issue) to something like Nero's Home Media.

and pickel....it's going in the mail tomorrow. I forgot my checkbook and our mailroom doesn't have a CC machine (WTF!!...dark ages in a tech company).
