I've seen all but Ils... but like you said these are more thriller than horror.
Ils sounds more like horror, I have to see that one.

I think they're all still generally considered "horror movies", mainly due to the fact that they're all particularly brutal and all have a very unflinching, pull-no-punches attitude toward their depiction of graphic, on-screen violence

Martyrs was really hard to watch at some point...

And Haute Tension ? AWESOME movie !!!

Another French horror movie that it is worth to watch !! It's really creepy !!!

I'm huge fan of horror movies. But I prefer ghost/spirit story rather than monster/zombie but 28days later is one of my favorite.
You should watch The Eye (Hongkong movie) Best and Scariest asian horror movie.

This is definitely worth a watch, well done, loads of fun, and funny.
It's a mash up of a load of different films, but yeah, good stuff indeed.

This is funny, you pretty much suggested everything I would have suggested.

If you enjoyed Antichrist make sure to see Zulawski's "Possession", it's the original art house hysterical-woman-as-monster horror. Both films on par with each other in terms of style and strength of script, which is saying a lot. Both also have brilliant performances by their lead actresses.

Fulci's Gates of hell trilogy (beyond/city/house) is pretty much quintessential Horror.... I also enjoy some of fulci's more obscure and lesser watched films as well...'don't torture a duckling' and 'manhattan baby' come to mind. Zombi 2 is worth watching for the shark vs zombie scene alone. New York ripper also scarred me (eye scene killed me). Fulci is king.

the 80s version or the 1999?

80s for sure. I haven't seen Anthropophagous 2000, but I've seen stills.
I love the look of that film. A friend described it as having mud on the lens.

I'll have to check out Possession. I was actually just looking at the jacket trying to figure out if I've seen it a couple of days ago. *edit* I just looked again, and I have seen it. Yup. It's a good one. I didn't think to connect it to Antichrist, but now I see where you are coming from.

Folci sure has a thing for eyeball. I've enjoyed some of his later stuff, but the trilogy is by far my favorite.
When you mentioned the shark vs zombie scene it made me remember a subgenra of horror/thriller/action that I didn't mention. A total favorite of mine... really crappy... GIANT ANIMALS!
Mega Shark VS Giant Octopus was a big letdown.. (kinda what I wanted ha ha..)

For anyone who wasn't already tricked, do your best to avoid Piranha 3D. I give it a big 2 thumbs waaay down. I blame Rue Morgue magazine for makeing it sound good to me. I also blame Taranteno for makeing hollywood think they have any business messing around with B genre films.
Anyway, I guess that's my opinion. Most people seemed to like it.

Cannibal Holocaust is the only movie I regret to watch. It haunted me for years.......

Then I think it did it's job. The same friend I mentioned before calls Cannibal Holocaust his #1 feel bad movie. I think it does a really good job of delivering that awful feeling.
Right now nothing I've seen actively bothers me, but there was a time when I would have unwatched a few movies. Ginnie Pig 2, Evil Dead Trap, and The Man Behind the Sun. Though the Man Behind the Sun was more due to info I found out after the fact. I guess I'd unwatch Paranah 3D, Star Wars episode 1 etc., but that's for other reasons!

I've always wanted to see Fulci's 'Beyond' since I saw a clip on that Bravo 100 scariest movies. It's a hard dvd to score (cheaply). Was just on ebay and bought a used copy for 10.

One of the scariest moments on film. The make up on that old woman is scary.

Absolutely! The first time a watched it I was laying in bed and my wife was asleep. I had to wake her up because I didn't want to be "alone". The pulsing lights and sounds mixed with nightmarish mask make one of the scariest moments in movie history.

I dunno if it's Horror, but it's definitely pretty creepy. I love the movie Jacob's Ladder.

I usually can't watch scary movies at all, I'm a pretty big coward. But a lot of these sound interesting and I might have to check some of them out

I enjoy Fulci's giallos (Don't Torture a Duckling, Lizard in a Woman's Skin, New York Ripper) as much as his other more known films. What I have yet to see but will get around to watching, hopefully this week, is A Cat in the Brain.

I'm also a long-time fan of Bill Lustig's Maniac, Romero's Martin, and pretty much everything Argento.

My wife and I decided to take this one down when we had our son..... When would be a good age to put this one back up with minimal scarring?

That poster is morbidly unforgettable. I was 11-12 when I first saw Maniac on VHS, on a bootleg copy that did not have any poster art on the cover. That was around the same time I saw Cronenberg's Rabid and The Brood for the first time.

Oh! Maniac! Was it anchor bay that put it out in north America? Watch the commentary on the nutorious sceen. Totally great, really interesting story behind it.

I think it was initially on Anchor Bay but mine is a reissue (?) on Blue Underground. A 30th year anniversary 2-disc edition came out recently with added bonus material.
