 Re: Bullshark Toys
uhhhhhhhhh. ok. What am I missing? Is the point to show bad test pulls and then later be amazed by awesome ones and have everyone cheer-leading? The idea seems awesome I just don't understand the thread.

 Re: Bullshark Toys
I have to be honest, this lamb sculpt wouldn't have been my first choice for a test vinyl. The detail is hard to decipher. I wouldve liked to see something in the vain of a gargamel or SB sculpt. I am however looking forward to seeing what else you guys come up with and wish Scott and company the best of luck.

Looks similar to a lot of stuff being shown there. I can't even tell it's vinyl. Second, "U.S. and A."?? What does that mean? Good luck, though.

 Re: Bullshark Toys
I just hope whoever is involved with this venture is being repsonsible and not having delusions of grandeur while people in the area suffer from exposure to toxic chemicals.
I have family close by there, so don't fuck with their environment unless you know what you're doing.
This feels ill advised and dangerous. Maybe I'm being overly cautious because vinyl as a substance, as much as we all love it, is a very nasty thing at the end of the day.

I think Scott's a pretty smart guy I'm sure that'd have been a factor in his thoughts before going into this. I think this is a really interesting idea and whether it's something that works or crashes and burns it's exciting but I wish the FL crew the best on this.

 Re: Bullshark Toys
This project interests me because I think the concept of "made in the USA" sofubi is very cool. A few years ago when I was looking into making a figure I made a lot of calls to (former) domestic vinyl manufacturers to find that they didn't do it any more due to stricter governmental regulations over the years.
So to clarify, the "open for business" part is now delayed until 2011 while you refine your technique? Has there been any luck reaching out to the Japanese manufacturers, perhaps to hire as consultants or perhaps even lease some tooling for testing?
And I see from one of the tweets that the product is REACH and FDA compliant, but what about EPA and/or OSHA compliance? The American companies I spoke to said that was the main thing that forced them out of vinyl and into polyethylene - the filtration devices and other safety measures to make the former were far more expensive than the latter.
Anyway, good luck with this, please keep us posted.

This feels ill advised and dangerous. Maybe I'm being overly cautious because vinyl as a substance, as much as we all love it, is a very nasty thing at the end of the day. is this supposed to be in purple, or are you just saying you want them to keep the unhealthy stuff in Japan and not your backyard? im confused why there isnt more support here, are we upset we lose the mystique of these being made in japan? i figured this is a really amazing opportunity for alot of artists who may have otherwise never had a chance getting vinyl produced... maybe im wrong on that part but i didnt expect to hear much negativity at all so im confused. its not like bullshark is planning on manufacturing kr toys right?

 Re: Bullshark Toys
Well I'm excited to see what comes from this! I agree with BD's comment on assuming Scott would look into the dangers prior to proceeding with manufacturing. I hope the team updates this thread often rather than relying on Twitter or whatever to make updates because I'll be damned if I'm gonna read Twitter.

I hope everything works out. Very excited at the thought of an American vinyl factory.
