Okay folks, does anyone else out there remember melted popcorn plastic holiday decorations? I am checking them out on fleaBay (after seeing a few on display at a local store) and wondering some things:

1) How common were these in the U.S.?
2) Heck, how common were these in the world?
3) How were they made? By hand or in a factory?
4) Are they still being made?

If you ever had one or have one or see one in person you can see how it's made. Piece of colored plastic kind of lumped together and melted as if they were baked on a sheet. Not melted all the way, but just enough to have them connect to each other. I think the technique is cool, but wondering if there's anyway to do the same on a D.I.Y. level. Or are the fumes and plastic just too much?

These were everywhere for most major holidays when I was a kid growing up in OH. Not really sure there would be a rarity factor, minus them just getting thrown away.

at cosi as a kid we took shredded plastic and melted it at a low temp into pog slammer so I would say start collecting random colors of plastic a nice big baking sheet and some scrap tin to fabricate into molds good luck
ps these thing are great, also vintage window clings where it is just colored latex painted onto a mold rock as well

I live in CT and remember that it was very common to see these when I was a kid in the late 80's early 90's. My grandparents had a bunch of them... I remember a jack o' lantern, a witch, and a ghost. Haven't seen them around in a minute, but I'm sure you can still find them.

We always had them. My mom was a teenage mom with no money, so they couldn't have been too expensive. I think we got them at the dollar store for the most part. I'm sure you could make them at a low heat setting with some molds & plastic, but yeah, the fumes might be less than appealing. I am pretty sure they were mass produced, probably in unsafe factories in china. haha.
