 Planned Parenthood Facing Funding Cuts
Hey guys, i'm not sure if all of you are aware, but just this weekend the House of Representatives passed a bill to cut all federal funding from Planned Parenthood, one of America's oldest non-profit organizations. For those of you who do not know what PP is, it is an organization dedicated to women's health and sexual education. Though yes they do deal with pregnancy and abortion issues, that is only 3% of what they do; 97% of Planned Parenthood Clinics' services are used for cancer screenings, STD screenings, and birth control. Cutting funds from this program could lead to low-income women not getting the gynecological treatment they urgently need due to high costs at regular clinics. This will happen if the Senate and President sign the bill as well. For those who oppose this action, PP needs your support by signing this petition to tell lawmakers this is not the right thing to do. Let's try to keep this thread friendly by the way; i'm not trying to start shit. You can sign the petition here (and tell others you think will care too about this if they haven't heard already!): https://secure.ppaction.org/site/SPageServer?pagename=pp_ppol_ws_I_Stand_with_PP&s_src=istandwithPP_home&__utma=1.496985144.1298339535.1298339535.1298339535.1&__utmb=1.6.10.1298339535&__utmc=1&__utmx=-&__utmz=1.1298339535.1.1.utmcsr=google|utmccn=%28organic%29|utmcmd=organic|utmctr=planned%20parenthood&__utmv=-&__utmk=52676136Thanks guys To find out more about what Planned Parenthood does, you can visit their homepage: http://www.plannedparenthood.org/

I think it's wrong that they are targeting these helpful and needed organizations to cut funding when they can cut funding in some other places that won't affect the puplic like that. I have a few friends that got/get help from PP for gynecological matters. Also, just recently, my fiance's cousin just had a baby (at 18) and gave her up for adoption with the help op PP and I believe another organization as well (I think Cradle). It's really nice the way they handled it too. The organization payed for all of the medical bills and the adoption is "open" so she can visit her daughter a set number of times a year.

Signed. This is just the tip of the iceberg. It's unfortunate that many people who voted the republicans back in power at the house are now finding out that they were duped and cuts are actually going to directly affect them (but not affect the upper class, who are pleading for more tax cuts). It's sad that programs that are considered by most industrial countries to be basic, minimal human services are considered to be expendable by the Republican party. "Let them eat cake."

No, it doesn't. I just don't see toy boards as avenues for social awareness or change. But maybe that's just me. Winu wrote: So this really doesn't matter much to anyone?
