anyone here collect legos?

those Disney minifigs are going to fly- so many people that don't even buy legos are asking me to find them a set.

I saw the Adam West Batcave at the Lego store. So tempted...then I saw the price
Also saw the Ferrari F40. I really want it.

I have all the blind-bagged minifigs since series 1 (well, not Mr. Gold...) but I skipped the Simpsons series and will also skip Disney. I find the rubberized heads... un-Lego? Again, I totally understand why they will sell very well, and why they will make more series like that one in the future, but... ugh. I only Ariel and Alice. I suppose it doesn't help the source material isn't always stellar.

I find the blind-bagged figures hit-and-miss too. Like a lot of bling bagged stuff, there are a good number of stinkers, and frankly, there are already so many amazing (i.e. better) minifigs in the sets. I think by pumping out so many, they have sort of lost track of original ideas. Better to rein in the themes a little and focus on quality. I mean, they are fun, but I sure don't feel any kind of gotta collect 'em all mentality towards them.

Disney are injected plactic not rubber...I thought that was very "unLEGO" too with the Simpsons.

I kind of see this series as Lego people dressed as Disney characters, like if you were at the park. So the classic characters have larger heads which are masks, while the more humanoid characters are Lego people in makeup, etc.

The only reason I'm thinking this is because of the Buzz Lightyear which has been done in the larger and more accurate head version already:

The current version looks like a more Lego-ized Buzz.

But that's my approach. Still haven't bought any yet, although I would like the Mickey and Donald.

And Buzz is a masked costume at the parks, right? Not a human wearing the cowl?

I hate to think how many duplicates you got to amass those (but then, hey, might be able pass some along here ya know). So do you use the 'feel' test, too?

I actually purchased most of them as complete sets online. They're sometimes cheaper than buying them in individual bags would be here.

I was the weirdo at TrU feeling through bags a few times, and only got duplicates twice I believe. I don't really mind - they join the kids' collection, whereas those I try to not have them play with.

I'm only missing Mr. Gold (I'm not THAT patient - or rich) and the Simpsons series which I didn't like. The Disney and German footballers series won't join the collection either...

hahahh they got tired of seeing me feel up the bags at the local Lego store, now they do it themselves and when I walk in they ask me what i'm looking for. I purchase and leave but they will only do one or two at a time which is fine by me since i usually get 90% of them elsewhere.

Just hire a kid to feel the bags, they have smaller fingers

I was able to go to the Lego store for the first time in a while over the weekend, so I saw the 'new' Disney figures. I do have say, not that I am a Disney fan anyways, but as Lego they are not my cup of tea. I definitely don't like the changes in head construction, and making them so different is inherently - to me - removing their Lego-ness. But I also noted for the first time how the Lego brand has become so diluted with 'other stuff' that what made it great now means it is almost just a name to slap on small toys. I am disappointed, I will freely admit. Sure, this all started with the 'licensed' lines, and has been gradually getting there, and while there may still be some classic Lego sets and stylings, I feel like it is losing what made it so amazing and a fun, creative toy. The market has clearly spoken, and I like SW Lego as much as anyone, but I think I feel a bit sad for the loss of the simplicity with the brand definition. I guess this is also part of a much larger trend in the toy industry and youth in general these days too, though.

I know what you're saying about the brand feeling diluted, but as I have said before, I strongly think "feeling" is the keyword here. Several of their lines (Creator, City, Basic, etc.) have been mainstays and follow "classic" Lego models, and there have always been a Lego-original theme next to the licensed themes (the Galaxy Quest space sets were GORGEOUS, the only line I've collected everything of).

A quick look at the sets released in 2016 shows 145 licensed ones (including 60 Star Wars and 30 Mixels) to 256 Lego originals. (I did not include Dimensions or CMF since they're a mix of both). So originals still trump licensed products almost two to one!

They need to make some WW2 stuff but Lego has a really weird thing against violence EVEN THOUGH you find it in Lord Of The Rings and some of the other sets lol.

What i mean by this is i would like to see tank, airplanes, battleships, and maybe some other stuff but no accurate flag barrings of any kind as i know the German one would be offensive to most ppl.

Honestly, outside of some recognisable pieces, I just don't see Lego. But as you said, there is plenty of still amazing stuff out there, and it is the majority; I just wish they would leave this kind of thing to Lego wannabes and KO toys.

I feel like the only good sets Lego has right now are Star Wars, Minecraft, city, Scooby Doo and a few other obscure ones like Doctor Who and Ghost Busters but other than that you dont see those amazing space sets or castles anymore. I really liked the historical western sets and Samurai stuff they made quite a few years back.

I've built a number of Elves/Friends sets with my daughter, and the vast majority of the parts are true basic Lego - just in colours that aren't exactly common. Despite all the backlash against creating a line specifically for girls with pastel colours and "mini-dolls" instead of minifigs, apparently the sets are really popular, so it did fill some sort of... gap? Plus, come on, THAT HOT-DOG STAND!



As for the battleship ones, I get what you're saying HH, but I truly doubt they'll renege on their principles: Lego Ideas guidelines are pretty clear on that. I guess they make a difference between fantasy vs real-life violence?

But they could just make the military vehicles like they do with those advanced vehicle or the architecture sets. I don't see the harm in at least that unless your going to make detailed lego men with bloodied body giblets.

A complete Lego zombie set would be awesome to. You know they DID make a zombie lego figure as an employee only figure if i remember correctly and that looked REALLY REALLY awesome to.

I can definitely see those sets being very popular, and, while not being a girl, or having a daughter, I can certainly see the popularity. But hotdogmobile? Heck yes, I might just have to overlook the dolly aspect for something that great.

Oh hmm, that is interesting than. But i would LOVE to see an actual zombie apocalypse set. Kind of like city but allot more grim looking with half torn down buildings and stuff.

The Lego Ideas Shaun of the Dead set was not retained by Lego due to the "movie's age-inappropriate subject material", so I doubt we'll see official zombie apocalypse sets anytime soon.

I WANT them to go back to making those AWESOME Samurai and Ninja Lego Historical sets. They were super cool looking when they came up! Not this whole Ninjago crap. Even though the animated series isn't half bad i still prefer the historical sets,

It's got a crazy amount of details (even a shadow theater) and is way better than any of the older ninja sets!

(I agree that most of the Ninjago stuff is subpar, though. But the dragons are cool, and that new boat is also pretty amazing!)
