Star Wars x Chartres Rose Window
So, I thought some of you might dig this. An artist friend of mine by the name of Len Bellinger (some of you may already know) has been part of the various Topps Star Wars collector card releases over the past few years. As well as the various Suckadelic projects. Anyway, he just finished up his batch of sketch cards for one of the next series and instead of just knocking them out he came up with a great idea as you can see below in the side by side I put together; His inspiration is from the south rose window at the Chartres Cathedral in Chartres France. It's not exact, but I think you can see exactly where he was going with it. Here's a link to the message board where Len posted about the project in detail. Definitely worth a read. I thought some of you may dig this and find it highly creative. Really great way to be thinking outside the box here and fusing pop culture with something very traditional and highly respected in the art history realm. Will be really cool to see if someone tries to find all those sketch cards to recreate the rose window. http://www.scoundrelpublishing.com/spar ... 40&start=0You can see the sketch cards in finer detail there as well. Check it out!

Most cool. Reminds me of this gargoyle at the National Cathedral in D.C.

I've been collecting Len's work since he worked with Sucklord on his cards and I've picked up a few of these Chartres die-cuts. In-hand, they are simply stunning. Here's one of mine that I can show up close to give you a sense of how bad ass they really are.

That's an interesting mash up of ideas and styles! Fun. Never would have thought of something like that.

Len is a fantastic artist and I love his posts about his creative process. Great insights and it's cool to see how he is pushing the boundries of the Star Wars mythology. Awesome stuff! I haven't seen any of these card but I'm sure they are amazing in hand.
