I like them because they remind me of the wood sculptures created by outsider folk artists. They exhibit a roughness like that of the carvings of Minnie Adkins

Might not be for everyone's taste, but the texture adds to the interest and the charm, and conceptually, he's captured what girls in japan look like today

. The expressions and the postures are nicely rendered in wood--very casual, not at all stiff. You half expect them to come alive and ask you if you want to dance with them
