I would LOVE to get this. Looks like they colorized it too? Curious to see how Ultra Q in color HD looks. At almost $450 its a pass for me though, ill have to make due with the boot set I have.

Damn, I was just gonna say I'll grab one of these when I'm in Japan, but then I saw the price. Ouch! I saw a DVD version listed not too long ago on evilbay (for around the same $$) but thought I must be dreaming; guess not. Any networks out there on Ultra boots?

Ive wondered the same thing. Although its not just box sets, Blu-rays and DVD's in general are a lot more expensive in Japan. Most new Blu-Rays are retailed around ¥6,000 ($72). The exchange rate isnt helping either.

Lets do it. According to amazon JP there are two box sets, box set 1 comes out August 2nd and contains episodes 1-14 and set 2 comes out Jan of 2012 and has 14-28. So if you were to buy both on amazon it would be like $550 before shipping and no Namegon

Man I hate when they colorize classic films/tv shows .This show looks beautiful in B&W.

The previous set was excellent IMO.Cant see buying this set unless it has eng subs.

There is no way this show will get a US release. Im pretty sure the OG Ultraman box sets sold like shit here and that has loads more appeal to the average person than a B&W show with very little action. So pretty much your stuck with a boot or an expensive Japanese release disk. As far as colorization goes im usually against it but for some reason im curious to see what this looks like. Also, I really doubt this will be subtitled, none of the recent Toho/Daiei/Tsubaraya releases have had them (except for the ultra galaxy movie).

UltraQ FTW, I just wonder if the colorization is going to look modern or straight from the 70's. That sky is totally 70's sky blue.

If that Namegon was a Marusan re-issue Id be more happy but I think Ill sell some stuff to get the set. I cant pass on this, I missed the original and now I never see it for sale. Only hoping the wife doesnt kill me.

Japanese box sets are usually this expensive. (as are regular DVDs which can run up to $50 for one movie). Skylar has ordered countless sets of Tokusatsu shows and usually $500 is par for the course on a series. English Subs are pretty uncommon on most of them, but sometimes you can find fansubs online and put them on yourself. I wouldn't count on it though, so plan to watch it in Japanese.

oh-and don't forget that burning blu ray is probably going to run the "group purchase" way more than burning a regular DVD set (if someone even has the capability to do it right now). Sorry to be the voice of reason here.

When I wanted to see the original Kamen Rider series on DVD, I saved up and paid $1000 for the Japanese DVD-box. Only now are fansubbers getting around to do full episodes (who knows how long it will take to get all 98 episodes), and I bought the set about 8-10 years ago now.

Fansubbing of live action shows is definitely more popular now than it used to be, but it's still moreso for all the newer Toku/Sentai shows.

I'm sure that eventually you'll be able to find rips of these online.
