Isn't it just easier to just put a max bid of whatever you're willing to pay and check on it later?

If people don't like ebay then they should never use it. The crying is just annoying.
I like ebay and I've lost out on auctions but it's not that bad of a service.

nah, as a tool ebay is fine, and even an okay marketplace at times. It is the fact that is has turned every Joe the Plumber into a flipping 'businessman' what irks me. It's completely against the collector culture/exchange on which it was founded. It's a glorified flea market; there are some interesting items, the occasional deal to be had, and even a few pleasant people; but you sure have to sift through a whole lot of garbage to get at it

i'm the annoying customer who asks a godzillion amount of questions about every item i purchase on ebay. not so much with vinyl stuff (since the flipping rate is much higher), but with vintage action figures. i'm asking about paint blemishes, joint tightness, fading, chew marks. you name it. if i'm going to be paying a little extra via ebay route, its to get something that fits my picky condition tastes. i've dabbled with the trade market and various action figure toy boards, and sure, those folk want $5 for something that sells on ebay for $12, but it looks like shit. all scraped up and broken beyond playwear. granted, i have to stick with trading for the broken scraped up crap these days, not spending money on toys and all.

If you do what the instructions say and enter in your MAXIMUM amount then in the event that you get outbid, whether it's a day before it ends or 2 seconds, it wouldn't matter because it would be more than you wanted to pay and nothing to feel sad/pissed about.

i agree with you guys that the whining is annoying, but it does slightly chap my ass when a sniper outbids my max by a buck or something..

how do you know they outbid you by a dollar?
maybe they outbid you by $500. the price only goes one buck (or whatever the min bid is i think) above the second highest bid.

I never understood this logic, unless 2 or more people are sniping an auction then you'll be outbid by the minimum bid increment, not necessarily the other person maximum bid, no?

Yea. Last minute bidding is stupid.
I can understand not wanting to drive the price up by bidding early.
But at the end of the day, whatever you want to pay the max, just lay it down and walk away.
But I still hate those last minute snipers.

How do you guys feel about the contestants on "The Price is Right" who bid $1 more than the person who just bid, or just straight up $1?

i love ebay... i cannot believe i been using it for over 10 years... thats pretty nuts when i think about it.

I was just guffed about a piece that I was winning until the last 10 seconds... It's them snakes in the grass snipers that kill my "Yay I can't believe I'm going to win this piece for this cheap" to "Fuck Ebay".
Let me say though that I've only had an issue with one seller, for the most part they're usually great. It's the users that get me in a twist. I agree, bid on what you want to spend, but it does sting to lose by 50 cents.

My question is this, when I put in a maximum bid of 50, and another person puts in a maximum bid of 150, do the bid's still ping pong off of each other like if you were bidding manually, or does it automatically just push to your maximum bid in one swoop...

How dare you make sense!
