Not too mention, if this is the worst of what he did, I think you could be happy. I am not gonna get in to the whole peace prize thing, but how about the fact that as soon as he takes office he essentially does a u-turn on nearly all of his proposed policies. Don't get me wrong, I am not holding him fully accountable, but come on you are the President. It just coveys a sad state of politics in general in the US, which is completely crippled by the two-party system and lobby groups. :|

It won't happen in this next election, but I can totally see an independent in the Whitehouse in the next 8 years... I live in a licensed Medical state, and I don't smoke, but seeing my father die of cancer, and dieing in a opiated haze unable to stomach food, was more than enough to make me realize the need.

I'm sorry Kev, I voted for Obama, but his policies have been just as f-ed as Bush's

I dont get this change of heart.

I work for a club. I have seen first hand what the benefit of medical MJ. I know alot of folks think a pot club is just a place to grab some herb. but it provides a safe place for folks to purchase and medicate. It also is the one place where you will find all walks of life sitting around a table not focusing on what is wrong with them but often enjoying what little life they have left. We have a bus that picks up hospice patience's once a week to come down to the club and medicate. Often this is their only time they get out of the hospital, this is the only time they are not dealing with doctors and focusing on whats wrong with them. Also, many patience's are recovering drug addicts. They are using MJ for harm reduction. If those folks cant find a place to safely purchase medicate they will try to "score" on the street and the street is what got them in trouble in the first place.

This decision by the obama administration IMO is the worst of them all (This effects me very deeply ). Not only does this effects patience's but a thriving industry. People have fought for fifteen years to regulate and bring this industry out of the shadows. Every time we make some progress on making this a legitimate business, the feds step in and it completely
halts all efforts.

Think what you want about MJ but this is assault on peoples civil liberties.

Post Re: Im seriously regretting voting for Obama
Sorry Bryan, I didn't mean for it to come off as though I was belittling your argument; in fact, I wholly agree with you, and sully support the program. My concern is that this is a sign of a bigger problem with the administration in the US to effectively govern the country. While it applies equally to both sides of the proverbial aisle, it really has an effect on the Obama government especially, becuase whereas the Republicans (and GW is the perfect example of this) just do what they want and don't give a rat's rear [they've got their base support and political backing], Obama and the dems are so concerned with pleasing everyone and trying to strut that middle line, which is just not a reality. In the end they are handcuffed to do anything trying to please both parties, leaving no one happy. I say stick with what you believe in and hold your ground; four years of honesty are better than eight of BS. But I know that this is naive thinking, unfortunately. There is a really good article I recently read, I would recommend checking out:
The humiliation of Barack Obama

All this diatribe comes with the caveat that I don't vote in the US - the situation of the Canadian political landscape is none too bright either these days, trust me. So maybe my opinion is not worth spit, but I do feel that America being what it is, it is right to hold it to a standard that might not be different, but is nonetheless rigid. I would just as easily criticise other foreign governments for what I see as their errors. They are public servants after all. I am not saying I want a country ruled by commie extremists (wait, you have one of those already  ) but I sure hope that eventually, though not likely in the near future, the system will work to correct itself towards to betterment of all, not just the few. That, or we will just destroy ourselves. Social/economic/environmental survival is incongruent with the current axioms of self-interest.

No worries Steve. I actually didn't read your post that way. Im just heated right now. I really do appreciate your sentiments. I so agree with you. Their is something extremely wrong with this country agenda. Like the bumper sticker reads "I love my country but I fear my government".

Post Re: Im seriously regretting voting for Obama
I'm seriously regretting not voting for Hillary, if only for the leveled expectations.

This is a move to the center plain and simple, a headline-grabbing push to try and reel in the more older, white independents the administration certainly lost the favor of this summer. But pissing off the states and their rights? That's just what these angry reps and governors in the opposition want - more big government interference to yell about. Not to mention the liberal supporters of the medical movement like computerhair, myself and so many others that this is essentially a move against. So not only is this is a calculation, it's a calculated error. Hugely disappointing.

I'm not really a fan of the GOP candidates or the entire congress for that matter. My hope in a government more worthy of the first world continues to fizzle away. Will be voting independent early and often, and waiting 'til everyone else gets pissed off enough to do the same.

The humiliation of Barack Obama

This is a great read Steve. I had no idea. and Im sure most americans don't either.

This is exactly what is happening. I dont know how he thinks he's going to get reelected again alienating the very people that got him into office.

I have been a democrate voter ever since I could vote. this move has made me turn independent. I hope our country can get their heads out of their asses and stop this next election.

The sad thing is that I supported him for the last 2 years. Making his case for him. I know that the president has to make middle of the road choices, But this one makes no sense at all. Why would you make a decision that would put more people out of work, and also put MJ users at risk.

He drank the fucking koolaid

Would be awesome if they were flooded with ironic "you get what you pay for" entries; you should submit your piece/comments, and the contest URL to Boing Boing...
