Post Re: Game of Thrones
If you havent read the books yet but are loving the show I'd almost say hold off on the reading as next season will get even more shocking,

Nice to see a show, or book, that isnt afraid to remove main characters. And remove them ever so cruely.

Already ruined it for myself and started up on book 2. and with a vacation coming up ill probably be able to get through 3 and 4. I had finished book 1 before watching the season, but it was still enjoyable to see it acted out.

here's an illustrated look at characters and relationships in Game of Thrones.
Not sure if some of these characters have been revealed in Season 1 so click at yer own peril

Seems like season 2 is only being shot now and will only air from Next June. if that's the case, there's no ways i'm gonna wait for the next season. book shoppan time

This is probably my favorite part. They killed off a few of my favorite characters yet I absolutely can't wait for next season.
A friend of mine told me that the show follows the books pretty closely but speeds up some character development. Can anyone confirm or deny this for me?

it was definitely very close to the first book, but he was able to give more details to certain situations. For example, the relationship of danearys (sp?) with her khal and bloodriders is a lot more intense, especially at the end, than the show put on.

You don't get into people heads as much in the show. Like Eddard Stak especially. So yes, character development is much faster. I think there will be some points where this is good especially if we get into season 3 and 4 (depending on what they wish to focus on of course).

wtfunks, supposedly book 5 has been coming out for about 4 years now. The fan base has been really pissed as Martin has gone off and written and released other stuff while we've chewed at the bit.

Post Re: Game of Thrones
Book 5, Part 1, is supposed to come out in July. Apparently he had so much material that he decided to split the last book into two books, and Part 1 will wrap up half the characters story lines, and Part 2 will wrap up the other characters story lines. When I first started the series I thought that it was a complete series and read books 1-4 in succession, and was greatly disappointed to find out that there was unwritten material to wrap it all up. I like reading a series from start to finish. I don't know whether I'll wait for both Parts 1 & 2 to be available before picking it back up again - I have a feeling my impatience will have me reading Part 1 as soon as it's available.

Post Re: Game of Thrones
I had never heard of the books before I started hearing about HBO's version. I really enjoyed all of season 1. I am now most of the way through the first book and I love how faithful HBO has been. I also love the casting. It seems pretty perfect to me. Normally, I like to read a book first and picture the characters myself first, but I don't mind this time. I liked being surprised by all the crazy stuff that happened in the first season, but I don't think that I can wait until next year to read the 2nd book...and the rest of the series after that too.

loved how this all ended, a really great season of television.

it's too bad so many of the books are unreleased (how old will the kid who plays bran be by the time the 7th book releases?) but i'm hoping i can transfer my concluding harry potter mania on to this saga.

Just finished the series. Enjoyed it, but it did feel like a long intro to something else. After the first two episodes, nothing was very surprising... And all the formulaic HBO stuff is there, it's a bit caricatural. Still, will watch the second season...

i found this interesting. George RR Martin does a great job of describing the food that the characters eat in GoT.

here's a bog dedicated to it.

http://innatthecrossroads.com/

“Cersei Lannister was breaking her fast when Sansa was ushered into her solar. ‘You may sit,’ the queen said graciously. ‘Are you hungry?’ She gestured at the table. There was porridge, honey, milk, boiled eggs, and crisp fried fish.” (Clash of Kings)

I was wonderin if they'd manage to get the large scale battle scenes right, and I have to say the previews make it seem they do! Very excited.

Otherwise, it's been a few months since I've read the books: does it look like the second season will follow the second book as closely as the first one did?

I know April 1 cant come soon enough. My girls brother had to read all the books after he saw the first season, and he said season two is going to awesome but the the third book (im assuming season 3) is CRAZY!

I believe they will continue to stick quite closely to the books, although i remember reading that some characters will be conflated for clarity's sake.
