Electronic music recommendations. I need them.
I know absolutely next to nothing about electronic music, so I need your input. I'm looking for some relaxing, mellow electronica. None of that waving-glowsticks-around-like-a-jackass crap, but some mid to down tempo/ambient type stuff. I also wouldn't even mind few suggestions for beat-less soundscape type stuff - but nothing too new age-y. I'm not looking to invest in spandex and a yoga mat just yet. Some light vocals are ok, but I'm looking for instrumental stuff too. Here are a few things I've heard that I like, to give you an idea... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U4U19zwFENshttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6TrbSvOJPSQ - Can anyone recommend something similar to this? I don't exactly know what to call it... trip hop? Atmospheric instrumental trip hop?? I don't know enough about electronica to categorize it, but I like the mellow sounds combined with the beat. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=31_KcxmKhzshttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s1g1mlVzJEYhttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iPvS5I4X1-shttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QLXzSefzVWUI just sort of picked this stuff out from random youtube searches, but it's a very loose idea of what I might be looking for. But I'm open to anything! Help!

Off the top of my head - you might wanna check out Ghostly International stuff (for starters: Matthew Dear, Loscil) & "7fingers" by Nils Frahm & Anne Müller.

Hmmm, maybe check out Múm - the icelandic band (there are two Múms). Tortoise. Bent. Stromba. That's all I got for now.

Mum is amazing. I would recommend Aphex Twin selected ambient works volume II. There are tons of stuff out there that fall under electronic ambient that vary greatly. ---NT--- wrote: Hmmm, maybe check out Múm - the icelandic band (there are two Múms). Tortoise. Bent. Stromba. I probably would have made the mistake of avoiding Aphex Twin altogether if you hadn't recommended this. The few things I've heard from this guy didn't exactly fit the bill, but this is perfect. ---NT--- wrote: Hmmm, maybe check out Múm Beautiful stuff, thanks!

Re: Electronic music recommendations. I need them.
Just going through some of my tune library at work...
The Album Leaf Baths Bibio Burial The Cinematic Orchestra Darkstar Deru Dimlite The Drift Global Communication James Blake Pantha Du Prince Reload Teebs Thievery Corporation Tom Middleton
I think it was mentioned before...the Ninja Tune label has some great downtempo artists. Also try listening to some artists on the Kranky label...a lot of them are pure acoustic-bliss.

Re: Electronic music recommendations. I need them.
Thanks everyone. Keep them coming! Great stuff so far. Give me some more lounge/chillout suggestions.
Also, anything with lots of beeps and blips and such - outer space electronica... if that even makes any sense at all.

How about some more like that, only with a beat? I'm having fun with this ..nefasth wrote: Check out Royksopp Nice one, I was actually listening to Royksopp last night while doing some searching. GREAT stuff.

Re: Electronic music recommendations. I need them.
nefasth Awesome, thank you. I've had a fascination with short wave numbers stations ever since hearing about the Russian UVB-76 transmissions, but had never heard of the Conet Project.
Ultra999 I just listened to a little Maurizio. Interesting, I'm definitely going to dig around for more of this. And good call on Fluke, this is just the sort of not-too-dancy trance I'm looking for.
Thanks to gazpacho and jcat for the lists, I'm about to start going through them right now.

Re: Electronic music recommendations. I need them.
Thinking of eletronic ambient you might want to check these out: —Biosphere - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aBW_bklt ... re=related—Susumu Yokota - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aij0xQQ2ZkE—Giuseppe Ielasi - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Aw2c7ZV-aJc—Asa Chang and Jun Ray - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3VNzZ_FB ... re=relatedNot sure they're what you're after but all are excellent examples of electronic downtempo that you could relate to ambient (some like Yokota are actually ambient pieces).

You should check out Taylor Deupree's stuff. You may like his label as well. 12k.com Really nice guy, and a great musician. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CUR7mFmoQsUalso, this might be to beaty for you, but it's bip and boopy: Komit vs Bovine Life http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oYQdShnc_3c

Re: Electronic music recommendations. I need them.
Lots of excellent suggestions so far, you should be well on your way. Warp is another great record label, many of the bands they've signed have been mentioned and they have some great compilations. The Early Gurus of Electronic Music is another great box set.

Re: Electronic music recommendations. I need them.
yeah, warp is rad. so many great artists. not all would be relevant to this thread (grizzly bear) but they definitely cover a lot of ground.. looking all of the warp artists makes me want to add plaid, flying lotus, prefuse 73, and most importantly ENO to my list
