reset your pram.

turn off your computer. turn it on and right away hold Command + Option + P + R

after you hear two tones you can let go.

hope that helps.

I've had to do repairs on my wifes stupid apple products more than once. This site http://www.ifixit.com/ has complete teardown instructions for just about every mac device with full color photos and lists of the tools you need. You can buy parts, too, although I've always found cheaper sources.

Thanks Joe but I'm a little deeper in the shit than that... This is my question, how does the backlight work on the keyboard, I had a spill and need to order a new one, but I just want to replace the keyboard, and not the whole topshelf... The keyboards that I've looked at don't indicate either way if they will light up or not, I've got the old one out, and I'm pretty sure the backlight is created through light reflecting from the white plastic sheet behind the keyboard. If that's the case I think I'm fine regardless of whether or not a replacement board comes with the same plastic backing... If anyone has a clue about this I would appreciate an answer...

Also Blake, I love apple, but I've always felt like the kid on those old mac vs. pc commercials should have started out with a foot pain, next be on crutches, then switch to a wheelchair, and so forth, because although they have a really stylish OS, they get injured really easy... The next mac setup I get will be an ipad/mac pro desktop, the heavy duty guy can just stay put, and the cheaper book can run around with me...
