Post Olde tyme occult fiction
Any fans out there? I've read a bunch of Dennis Wheatley, Bulwer-Lytton, Arthur Machen, and the old Weird Tales crew. Any suggestions for me?

I've read some of Quinn's Jules de Grandin stories in Weird Tales. Nice! Any Quinn titles come to mind, Skylar? Does anyone have the Battered Silicon Dispatch Box set of de Grandin stories? I'm wondering if that edition has the old WT illustrations.

Lovecraft +2.

How about the voodoo/zombie subgenre? Anything other than Jumbee, Lukundoo, Magic Isle, Book of the Dead? Has anyone read Still Dead (Skipp & Spector, eds)?

I really like Zombie Fiction. I own both Skipp & Spector's Book of the Dead and Still Dead. There is suppose to be a 3rd book, if it ever comes out.

Shameless plug- I have a piece of fiction coming out in Allen Koszowski's Inhuman, issue #4 (which should be seeing daylight soon, I hope).

you can go to www.allenk.com for more info

I also have a collection of supernatural/horror poetry coming out from a small press publisher in November. More on that later...

no, I never read any of his stuff. I'd like to. I have a link bookmarked where you could get most or all of his work together in 3 collected volumes, but they were quite expensive. I'll have to look for it.

Thanks Skylar. I think you're referring to the Battered Silicon Dispatch Box set. It's like $250 for the set, which seems kind of pricey. If it's as nice as the Wandering Star editions of RE Howard then OK, but if not...

Chad: I checked the allenk link. Inhuman looks like a worthy read. I bought a couple of pen and ink pieces from Allen a few years back. The detail is insane! I wanted to buy the portrait of Edward Lucas White he did for the Midnight House books but Allen couldn't find it. Speaking of poetry - have you read White's book Narrative Lyrics? It is awesome. I think he signed and hand- corrected most of the copies out there. Priced about the same as a SB fig...

I'd really like to read them, so I'll have to start squirreling away some money here and there.

The first Book of the Dead is one of those books I will never part with. I love almost every story in there.

The second, not so much, except I really liked the one that took place in New York.

On a related note, I got an advance reader's copy of Max Brooks' World War Z (soon to be a major motion picture). It's an oral history of the great zombie war, and a really incredible read. Probably the coolest thing I brough back from SDCC.

On the topic of Lovecraft, if you read nothing else, check out The Red Hook Horror. It describes modern-day Brooklyn just as well as it did back in HP's day. ;p
