Sick of Star Wars

Tue Dec 13, 2011 8:57 am

I like Star Wars as much as the next and I'm probably going to be burned at the stake for this but I'm sooo sick of seeing Star Wars!! everybody's cousins nephews best friends uncle is doing Star Wars in toy customs, art, etc lately. I just want to poke my eye out with a burning hot fireplace poker! There has got to be another source of inspiration for that new "art piece" man, that shit is starting to get BORING. Come on challenge yourself a bit, pop culture is bigger than that!

Am I the only bastitch that feels this way? I'm kinda feeling like Jerry Saltz with his "If I ever see Star Wars again I'm gonna get medieval on you!" to Sucklord, LOL! Free toy to the first one that post a pic of Jerry saying that :)

Close but it has to have a caption or something with his SW statement to Sucklord.

OK, let me make it a bit more clear. The pic should have Jerry with a comic book style dialogue balloon that says "If I ever see Star Wars again I'm gonna get medieval on you!". All the elements must be within the image or it don't count. A lil extra bonus prize if you can put the Sucklord in it. Prize will be a random Rose Vampire from my collection. Bonus prize will be a random mini Real Head figure.

Oh, I have no interest in the toy giveaway. I just found this pic very fitting for your rage. I also thought you could post your statement in the fuck you thread as well. It can be directed to Star Wars or the lackluster so-called artists who have no vision. Either one works. In the end, this is just a great pic. I also found him throwing up the horns good too.

However, if no one else can pull off what you're looking for. I think my pic wins on many levels.

Man that looks like crap. Jar Jar Binks was a CGI abomination.

At least it's not Vader, a Stormtrooper, or Boba Fett.

I will agree that Star Wars is way over used in art/toy/every aspect of today's nerdy society. However, I still appreciate when it is used in a new way or has a new look/aesthetic.

The vinyl posted above are a good example of something that is Star Wars but something I haven't totally seen before. The S7 Stormtrooper is another good example. I get tired of seeing Star Wars in most fanboy art scenarios though.

Star Wars.

The only Star Wars I have in my house is the Jumbo Trooper. And sometimes I think even THAT is too much...
As much as I love the original 3 movies, and all the iconic characters/vehicles/imagery, it's just way too nerdy. (And that's coming from a guy who collects toys!)

I'll always love the original films and the images/toys/etc. from them. I see what you're saying though, the whole "Star Wars Themed Art Show WOOOOO!" type stuff digs at me. It's been done SO. MUCH. I thought the Vader helmet thing was cool when that happened. I think Bwana's painting of each toy was a cool thing. I think SOME select tributes or whatever work and are cool and original (wall paper, Shogun Stormy, Star Case bootleg etc.) Overall it's totally annoying for the most part.

I can say the same for MOTU and classic video game themed stuff too though. Just too much. Draw from something else now please. I love tributes, a great one is hard to come by especially when there's a garbage truck full of them so I can appreciate a few. Overall, ugh, psht, whatever. ::hippster glare::

The first three films, especially the first, the first wave of toys, the original soundtrack double album: i loved those as kid, when they came out. The only subsequent derived material or project i was ever remotely interested in was this:

That's a hilarious relic zapataloco. Disco Star Wars! There was even a single from that album which was all over the AM radio at the time. There had already been a number of novelty disco radio hits including "A Fifth of Beethoven," "Disco Duck" and a disco version of the theme from "I Love Lucy" ... Meco's single seemed to fit into that milieu. How's this for a useless bit of trivia from the nether recesses of the brain?: The producer was a guy named Tony Bongiovani. Immediately prior to producing Meco's record, he'd produced the first Talking Heads album, "'77." David Byrne hated Bongiovani and blamed him for ruining the record. (Not sure why since it's actually a very clean production.) Anyway the Heads ran from one of the most commercial producers in the biz to one of the most artistic, Brian Eno, who made their next few records sound like Brian Eno records. :-)

There were a ton of Star Wars LPs cranked out in the heyday of the SW hype '77/'78, most of them really, really bad and completely forgotten to history by now. (I bought a few of them, yikes.) Lucas must not have been exerting such stern copyright controls back then. The original John Williams soundtrack is the only great one, although I'll bet Meco's disco LP is a real hoot to listen to now. Get a spotlight on the mirror ball and break out the Millennium Falcon model. Beep beep!

This record is great at both 33 and 45 rpm's. Yes, this was a drunken discovery.

I'm not sick of Star Wars.... just to address the subject of the thread.

I was like that before having kids, then BOOM ! - I was sucked back in
(well kinda, I still don't give a damn about what was released after ESB  )

His name is actually Tony Bongiovi, he produced 2 ramones albums too, Leave Home and Rocket to Russia,
and he's related to Jon BonJovi (the ramones mention Jon Bonjovi making an excellent cup of coffee in the liner notes of one of the re-releases of the albums)

The Jumbo Trooper for me doesn't count. That was a licensed SW toy that stands on it's own. I agree that not all of them are bad. My gripe is the recent wave of SW un-inspired custom toys, art, etc. My two centavos is the apparent lack of courage or unwillingness to stay away from the shallow pool from which people nowadays pull ideas from. It just seem too safe and boring.
