over the yrs on here I've seen people get ribbed about spelling...I haven't had all the education alot of folks on here have had and my spelling sucks ass but I really don't give a fuck! this is a toy board and i can pretty much figure out what folks are trying to say...so far as spelling I could give three shits how any one one here spells your, you're or whatever the fuck it is..It boiles down to "I know what there saying" and to me that is all that matters...

now look at all the mistakes I've made trying to explain myself, and ask me if i give a shit!!

dude don't even sweat it some people just want to feel important so they go around correcting people and tossing there weight around. Personally I would be less bothered by it if this wasn't a toy board and it was something more serious but considering that this is something of passion and hobby, I feel like there's no need to be snotty. For the record I rarely say anything negative at all on this board but lately i'm getting pretty annoyed with all the snobby attacks and nit picky crap. It's about collecting toys and making new friends not about making yourself feel better then others. I practically live on this board now and I love it, wouldn't trade it for anything. I have met some amazing people in my time here both in person and in PM and I look forward to every new person that signs up having new stories and pictures to share.

Dammit and i even looked it over before I posted it just so that couldn't happen! Sadly I have always failed at the there/their thing. I finally got the your/you're thing a couple of years ago due to an ex-girlfriend. That slag knew her grammar and syntax but she tried to give me herpes... Just saying good grammar does not make a good person... That evil succubus.
Edit: I did not get herpes... for the record... good triumphs over evil.

Dude I was so pissed... Imagine waking up one morning to your girlfriend turning over and being all "I need to tell you something.". Of course you are thinking something like "Shit I bet she slept with her baby daddy behind my back and didnt tell me, lame.". When in all actuality she replies with " I have herpes.". So then you of course say "how long have you had it?" because you've only been dating for like 2 months and she replies with "3 years.". At that point your brain melts and you end up going top the local toy show totally in shock and not waking up from it and breaking up with her for being a lying evi slag until a week after she told you. Messed me up for a good couple of years.

Everyone makes spelling, and grammar mistakes, from time to time, but it doesn't take a secondary school education to find out how to write sentences properly. If you want the criticism to stop, take some time out of your day to study grammar online. It's been years since I was in a classroom, and a lot of what I've learned has become fuzzy, but thanks to people correcting me online, I've got a fire lit under me to re-study, grammar.

P.S. You seem like a nice guy, nobody is specifically picking on you, I flubbed yesterday, and may have somewhere in this very statement, but with the power of information, I'll keep learning.

I see it a lot online, when someone runs out of points in an argument the classic "how can you even judge me when you haven't spelt half of your sentences correctly" comes out. Bore off, if it makes sense in my book thats all that matters. Unless you're getting paid for it or its very important that is.

Fuuuuuggg that! Damn dude, that's nuts. But I'm glad it ultimately turned out fine for you.

As far as the whole grammar/spelling thing goes, I am generally pretty thorough in following protocol myself and would strongly support somebody's decision to achieve an education. However, when it comes to anybody else who may be communicating with me, as long as their point comes through without having to decipher a bunch of mishmashed bull shit, that's all I'm concerned with. I'll shake my head at a publication, or any other professional use of language, where I may find a mispelling or misusage of grammar... just as I'd shake my head at someone making a legitimate speach and using words like "gonna" or "wanna", or unstressed variants of words such as "fer" instead of actually pronouncing the word as it is spelled, "for". However, if casually talking to a buddy who states to me, "I'm gonna go to the store fer some groceries," I would know what he means, understand it is casual rather than professional dialect, and carry on the conversation accordingly. As far as I'm concerned, Skullbrain is a bunch of people carrying out very casual conversation surrounding our favorite shared interest, toys.

Gah, all this L33t hurts my eyes... To be 14 again...

To play devil's advocate a bit here, yes, spelling and grammar are sometimes used as tools by educated people to belittle others, and yes, as long as one is understood, it shouldn't matter so much. On the other hand, the whole point of proper spelling and grammar is to make reading fluid and understanding easy. If you're someone like me, your mind notices every mistake. It impedes your rhythm. It's annoying. Annoyed people tend to express themselves on forums. Ergo the posts.

In the end, when a post is riddled with mistakes, the writer obviously didn't give enough of a shit to use a spellchecker (or even simply double-check his/her post). It makes me not take what they say very seriously: I feel like I'm reading something written by a teenager.

Oh, and I don't buy the "I normally can spell, but I don't bother to on forums". I mean, you know how to spell or you don't. Your mind doesn't switch off because it's a board.

(My bias here: I've worked as a teacher, translator and proofreader. I love languages and grammar.)
