Post Vintage????
Just a random question? How long does it take to constitute something as "Vintage" I was looking thru Ebay and found something made in 1998 taged as vintage. 1998 dosent seem "Vintage to me. Im wondering if your age has something to do with it.?

I wouldn't give it a lot of thought. Sellers on ebay will slap anything on a item so they can make a buck.

I thought that to be vintage something had to be 25+ years old. I'm fairly sure that the 25 year mark is when an auto is able to claim vintage status.

Apparently, to be considered an "antique" the item must be 100 years old or older.

I would agree with NT in that "vintage" should be at least 25 years or older.

Yes, as when a recent Blobpus release is described as being "REAL HEAD M1GO NAG GRODY BULLMARK VAMPIRE ROSE KOZIK VINTAGE."

But computerhair's question is good food for thought. Generally I think of "vintage" as being pre-1980 but that's too far back for some. To each their own interpretation.

I recently read that a vintage toy is anything made in 1989 or before. All I could think was damn, I am old.

Vintage is supposed to be accompanied by a year.
So saying something has a "vintage" of 1989 is somewhat correct.

The term comes from the VINEyard.
Where a VINTNER would declare a VINTAGE of a very good harvest of a single crop during a year of note.

And even then it didn't mean EVERY year you made something, like a manufacturing date.
It was originally only for noting super special awesome years.

Someone trying to sound smart started misusing the word and like sheeple, it's become one of the AIDS of ebay marketing.

In some ways, the correct use of the word half-lives - as most of us refer to these toys as "super special" and I guess making them or their years "vintage" or really noteworthy. So I guess it isn't all lost.

Common use in toy lingo for "vintage" refers to the original production runs of Bullmark, Popy, Takatoku, Marusan, etc for this audience anyway.
This period spans the 1950's if you're into the Tin windups, 1960's for "sofubi" and more or less ends around 1981-84 depending on who you ask and what you are looking for.
Some Bandai and Popy toys saw production as late as 1989 however.

Wow thanks guys. I always thought it was funny how people list things on ebay. I guess anything to make a buck, even lying.

Thats interesting about antique's. There are tons of antique's stores I have been in and I rarely see anything over 100 years

anyways, I hope to be a antique one day
