Beastie Boys' Adam Yauch R.I.P.
Many years of great music and irresistible beats. Only 47 years old. He'll be missed by many. http://bit.ly/JjwR9cFriends, if you're over 40, check with your doctor to see if you're due for any sort of cancer screening. With an eye to survival, early intervention can make all the difference.

This is some seriously sad news. And at such a young age. My thoughts go out to his friends and family. Rest in peace, Adam. You will be missed.

Interesting you mention this Dean. My oldest and dearest friend called me yesterday to inform me he has bladder cancer... He goes in for surgery on Monday to have the growth removed and then a shot of chemo for good measure. It's a rare cancer with a high survival rate, but you never know... They are hoping (thinking) it was caught early. I am hoping the same. Good advice. Hell, good advice for those under 40...

Re: Beastie Boys' Adam Yauch R.I.P.
666doll, here's hoping for the best for your friend! Any type of cancer indication can be scary, but again, there's a great chance of survival if things are taken care of early on. I had an almost-brush with skin cancer a couple of years ago but thankfully surgery took care of it. I've got a scar as a result but that's a lot better than melanoma!
I'd mentioned "over 40" because that's the youngest age I'm aware of for which tests are generally recommended (specifically mammogram.) Colorectal cancer screening for both sexes isn't generally recommended until age 50. However if you're under 40 and have concerns, there's never anything wrong with discussing it with a physician and requesting a test.
Anyway, gonna blast some Beasties today. It's been awhile since I've given them a listen but as others have said, their music was practically the soundtrack to my life for several happy years.

Re: Beastie Boys' Adam Yauch R.I.P.
I had to buy 4 different License to Ill cassette tapes because we would listen to that shit till they broke. Like Coop said on FB, watching them grow and mature as people and artists was a privilege. I am extremely thankful to have been along for the ride. Seems like the end of an era....

Re: Beastie Boys' Adam Yauch R.I.P.
Such a loss. I have no interest in this sad fact being true...
I wasn't hep to their punk'n beginnings, but have to say that when Fight for Your Right hit my TV when I was 12 I didn't get the joke. A tour with cultural abortion Madonna and a couple of years of guilt-by-association fan observation did them no favors in my little kid book. The tape was hard to escape though. Although I would have never admitted to it then my true self couldn't deny that Brass Monkey and Girls seemed kinda incredible.
Things change.
In 1989 the Beastie Boys released the greatest Caucasian Hip Hop record of all time... I was looking forward to them releasing the greatest septuagenarian Hip Hop record of all time in 2037.
RIP, Mr. Hornblower.

Re: Beastie Boys' Adam Yauch R.I.P.
I saw them in Manchester, UK. The line up was RUN DMC, Beastie Boys & DJ Hurricane, first time I ever saw someone with three decks....blew me away.
Beasties killed it though, caged go go dancers & a huge inflatable dick on stage, certainly a gig I'll never forget. We were there all day and when the tour bus rolled up all three were more than happy to hang out shooting hoops and chatting to us and other fans. Great guys all round, this is a real shame for sure.
