Yes! A bit of it brings out the subtle cucumber in the gin. I'm certain it's more the smell than any flavor it adds as a garnish.

Had a "few" servings of Hendricks over the weekend. Good stuff. I liked it best with Fever Tree Tonic and a slice of Cucumber.

Didn't like it so much with Canada Dry Tonic and some Lime.

I think I may have found a new favorite gin - Ransom's Old Tom Gin: http://www.ransomspirits.com/spirits.php
I haven't made a G&T yet, but just had a small bit neat and it was very tasty.

It's about time that I posted in here. Most of my hard liquor sits on my shelf, slowly consumed and aging pleasantly, but if I have Hendrick's gin or some Zubrowka vodka... well, they just don't last!

I found an old beer cocktail in a book by Arthur Machen that I have been drinking now for a few years; it's just a simple shot of gin topped up with a light coloured beer. It's a nice, cooling, uncomplicated drink. I hope that you enjoy.

Like a highball glass of beer with a shot of gin in it? Less beer? More?
Sounds weird, but I'll give it a try!

Yeah, I vary it between a splash to a full shot of gin depending on mood and the beer I have. Then top with a bottle in a highball or pint glass.

I like to use Sam Smith's Nut Brown Ale for this myself. I suppose that you could use a dark beer, but I've never tried for fear of overwhelming the gin!

Cool - thanks for the clarification. I'm wondering what it'd be like with a good pils...

Alllllright there are some fellow booze enthusiasts on the board! I am a whiskey man, in all its various and sundry forms.
Recently have been enjoying some nice aged ryes. And barrel proof bourbons. All neat, of course. This stuff is too expensive and tasty to be mixed or even diluted with water.

Like I always say, "great whiskey deserves even better kaiju".

as far as i know, unless it states that its bottle aged(i only know of beers that are like that so far)it will not age outside of the cask. As a matter of fact its more likely (wine and beer especially) to go bad after being unsealed...just an fyi. I do hear there are a lot of people who buy and let sit liquors to age them or think theyre aging by sitting there, just dispelling a myth!

Edit:
oh and hendricks gin is amazing, if i could afford it id drink it all the time.. i just had blantons the other night, a bourbon. So good.. apparently everything by buffalo trace is supposed to be good.

How timely. Hendricks & Fentimans tonic has been the drink of the first half of the game so far. Seems to be working just fine so far.

All this drinking talk has me wanting to drink. Decided to concoct a more flavorful beverage with Hendricks this afternoon. I muddled some basil and rosemary my g/f has growing in the apt, made some simple syrup, added some lime juice and a cucumber slice, some ice and broke out the shaker! Mmmmmmmm heaven (oh and of course tonic water to top it off).

^ I'll rename it if James can merge the mixed drinks thread I started into this one. Honestly we mainly just talk about Hendricks here so that's why I started a new one- but it would be nice to have a thread called High Spirits/ mixed drinks thread (formerly mmm Hendricks Gin) lol.
