Post Need to find a heavy duty box to ship a twin reverb in
I have this vintage (in awesome shape) 1979 Fender Twin Reverb Amp sitting in my closet collecting dust so I decided to sell it on the evilbay. I never play anymore, and besides school is coming for me next week...

Anyhow, how fucking hard is it to get a box to ship this in? They don't even sell Amp Boxes. I went to a Fedex to get a quote (used California as the fake destination to get the furthest rate so there will be no surprises before I list) and they said they don't pack stuff like that, which is all very well because I don't trust anyone to pack it. I tried the local Guitar Center to see if they could give or sell me a amp box (I mean this amp has been reissued by Fender so I'm sure they have some in store) and they said they don't do that and have to strictly recycle them. Which is BS I think.

I can't just get some super thin box at a Office Max because this thing weighs 80 pounds. I checked online and most places that sell double corrugated boxes force you to buy 5 minimum at $8-10 a pop before shipping. I need one. Anyone know of a solution?

You might just try some shops/suppliers carrying heavy equipment. It is well possible to get these boxes (stuff for the lab comes in them all the time) so don't accept the run around. Without the big CRT tvs, the chances are less, but some electronics stores still might have something that will do the trick. They are generally reinforced carboard, with dense packing, and staples too. Plus, you should be able to get one for free, since they just have to be broken down anyways.

Try costco as they have larger heavy boxes. You will need to customize the box to fit it.

Or http://www.uline.com/Grp_99/Corrugated-Boxes-Heavy-Duty but you have to get a bunch of them

Thanks guys, yeah I wasn't buying the whole Guitar Center BS story how they have to break them down and recycle them. That's why I never ever went to GC in my life. Corporate stooges trying to be guitar heroes- come on. Ironically my G/F's aunt owns a music store but every time I ask her to ask for me, she get's weird. What are these damn boxes?! Gold?!

On the other side of this I see a prosperous business venture for making boxes to just ship Amps in. No one is doing it...

I usually buy doubled walled boxes from office depot to ship my wares to sdcc. They are solid and fairly cheap. Used for packing dishes normally.

Chad, yeah that's one of my destinations (office depot) this evening. Hopefully they'll have something around that size. I think music stores don't give or sell boxes because they need them when they sell or ship back to the music instrument makers. At least that's what I'm guessing. Found a awesome 'how to' on packing an amp:

I always over pack to be safe, but in this day an age everyone has to- given the scammers and how freight companies toss things around.

If you are near a uline location, they have them.
Not worth it to have shipped, only if you are near one.

Do you have a hot glue gun? Get some cereal boxes (Kellogg's makes the thickest) from the supermarket. Call them the night before (or call during the night shift) and ask them to hold the Kellogg's boxes specifically. Break them down, cut them to the size you need and reassemble. Then glue in re-enforcement panels on the inside of the box. You might even be able to get away with a bottle of carpenter/wood glue but the difference between that and a cheap glue gun is less than $5.

Just be sure to throw down a box or two below the one you're cutting so that you don't damage the surface you're working on.

I've done shit like this many times (even internationally) and never had a problem even with kettlebells. Good luck!

After 11:30 PM walmart employees stock the floor. You are allowed to take any of the boxes that they break down. (Except for the ones that say do not take on them, but those are rare)
You can usually find boxes of any size you could ever need, large and small. I have used this for moving multiple times. And its free!

Hmm thanks for the ideas guys. I was in a Home Depot yesterday and the manager said if I come in at 9pm they break down boxes then. Now the only question is can I wrap my head around going to a Walmart , supermarket or HD and wait around for these magic boxes? Or try this GIANT box they gave me at the UPS store. I think it's way too big.

Who wants to start a business with me designing boxes to ship Amps in. Padding already installed in them. I'm telling you- Million dollar idea. Forget these toys, we'll make them later with some profits. I can't be the only person in this predicament.

You guys must be super charming because as sweet talking and polite as I've been no store will give up a box. It's almost like they anticipate people like me coming in so they can say no. I don't get it? Just give it up already, you're just going to crush them! Buffalo sucks.

So it's all about the box cutter now. I'm making my own damn fucking box.

EDIT: fucking take that everyone who doesn't have a box for me (even got a back up box now via g/f):
