The company I work for laid me off yesterday.

They cited bad financials for the company and my not being ready to come back to work, due to my medical condition.

My FMLA expired at the end of sept and they had me on personal discretion leave, which didn't protect my position.

as long as I'm still out on disability with dr.s orders,I can still collect long term disability. at least I have that and my health.

Fucking sucks...

Yeah, VA is a at-will employment state. companies can fire/lay you off for little to no reason. The laws protect THEM from being sued.

These assholes would've laid me off even if I went back the monday following my last day of radiation. They decided weeks ago who was being laid off.

Yeah, with our son du in Feb, this really couldn't have come at a worse time.

Yeah, looks like it will be up to some troll who works for the Virginia Employment Commission, and if I get unemployment benefits or not.

As of now, Im on long term disability still and will get that until Im cleared by UVA to go back to work, ie: start looking for a new job. (I'll probably be cleared to return Jan 1)

Then, I can file for unemployment benefits, after Im cleared.

I really hope they take into consideration that I was let go while still fighting Cancer and wasn't cleared to go back to work yet. Its not my fault I couldn't go back to work yet...FFS.

Its in God's hands now, I'll leave it up to him.

Consider getting a lawyer, ask for pro bono. Explain your situation you never know what will pop up.

Contact a local news station, they usually eat this shit up.
