Loving the 5 song ep by BAT. Felix from D.R.I. is on drums, dude from Municipal Waste on bass & vocals, can't recall who the guitarist is... Brings to mind Venom, Hellhammer/Frost, and old school thrash like Sodom, Onslaught, etc.

Re: Metal.
The new album from Leviathan is fuckin' nuts !!! In a good way, mind you. The cd package is kick ass too...comes in a spiffy box with 11 mini art prints by Jef. The last new album I listened to this much was 'Colored Sands' by Gorguts, which ended up being my favorite album that year.

I was wondering when someone would bring this up! I didn't want to be the first to post about it because I thought maybe I was biased and a bit too excited for this album. But I can't stop listening either. It such a quality release.

Re: Metal.
I listened to it again today, Chris. I find it straight up compelling. Almost sounds more death metal than black metal, but i'm trying in my old age to not cling to all this labeling bullshit. It is just an inventive, powerful recording.
These guys are my new heroes. They hail from Finland. Sounds like a good mix of Raven, Destruction, Show No Mercy era Slayer, and Exciter. Without a hint of irony, I present......Ranger.

The new Leviathan owns! Wrest killed it on this up there with tentacles of whorror and his Lurker of Chalice stuff!
Yeah, Ranger is great fun ! Speaking of Exciter, I ordered recently the reissue of local band Crypt, Stick to Your Guts (*Exciter members in the band...). When it came out in 87' I wasn't really into it but nowadays, it sound much better than most of the new band in the new/old/new style

^ Like it. Reminds me of Armored Saint.

Jef mentioned in his recent cover story in Decibel that new Lurker Of Chalice material might be coming out

Received an email from the King Diamond/Mercyful Fate official site that they recently found this unused art from the cover artist for Abigail, and to expect a big announcement on August 3rd. The anticipation is killing me....anyone know anything out there ? LOVE this art !

Re: Metal.
My dad keeps finding old metal stuff of mine in the attic . . . here's the latest.
He found a bunch of my patches a while ago. Also, a 'Warlock' silk tour scarf which is pretty cool. Man, i used to love Doro Pesch . . . i met her at a gig in Newport, she signed my program. Her English wasn't great so it was a quick chat.
Classic 'Hells Bell' pendant.
Dio evil clown pin badge.
1980 cassette single with uncensored cover. I still have the 12" vinyl version of this somewhere.

Re: Metal.
I had a crush on Doro too
I also had some of that cheap pot metal jewelry. There's a huge swap meet here in San Diego every weekend, and their was a booth back in the days that had all metal gear. Everything was bootleg... t-shirts, mirrors, posters, buttons, leather gloves with the fingers cut off, bandannas....it was like heaven. I specifically remember having a Metallica logo necklace, a Motorhead Snaggletooth ring, and a Corrosion Of Conformity skull ring ( all of which would turn your skin green eventually..)
Very cool Maiden cassingle ! Cassettes are all the rage these days with the hipster elite who think they're very 'underground'
I hope you've given your dad instructions to save EVERYTHING !!!

Man, i remember a little shop in an arcade in Cardiff that was like that. It was a tiny little shop, but they had it packed floor to ceiling. Thousands of patches, badges and other cool gear . . . like bullet belts, patchouli oil and big glossy posters of page 3 glamour models like Sam Fox.

That's when you steal your girlfriends clear coat nail polish...works as a nice sealant to keep your finger from turning green

Re: Metal.
^ Very good ! Never heard them before, went and bought it immediately. Sounds like what Ghost wishes they could be. Very...entertaining....video to watch
I'd been meaning to get here and list my favorites from the past year. Here goes...
Myrkur - M Night Demon - Curse Of The Damned Satan - Atom By Atom Leviathan - Scar Sighted Mgla - Exercises In Futility Denner/Sherman - Satan's Tomb Panopticon - Autumn Eternal Grimoire - L'aorasie des spectres reveurs Enforcer - From Beyond Iron Maiden - The Book Of Souls Archgoat - The Apocalyptic Triumphator Nile - What Should Not Be Unearthed Vastum - Hole Below Drudkh - A Furrow Cut Short Slayer - Repentless
I've been really digging Ghost a lot. Disliked the vocals at first but they kinda grew on me. I just discovered them and they've rekindled my love for metal's dynamic nature. Ghost admits they want to sound like a band you just discovered from 30+ years ago, and they got that down pat.
This is the song that did it for me

I like Ghost a lot. I even like the second album, which seems to get the most negative criticism. January already looks promising for new metal. These two in particular for me...

Re: Metal.
More vintage attic finds . . . most of my old Maiden badges. Well-worn and a bit faded. My prize possession was the original 'Killer' tour badge. I drilled a hole in the top and fastened it to my jacket with wire so it wouldn't get lost. I was a bit too young to go to the actual gig, i think one of my dad's friends gave it to me cuz i loved Maiden so much . . . .
