 the big life changes
so some shit is going down at home, which now has me facing the prospect of living on my own again after nearly 10 years - making a move probably far away - into a place probably much smaller i'm feeling overwhelmed by the stuff i have stashed away and even more overwhelmed by the prospect of figuring out how to move it, sell it, whatever any advice?? this blows

 Re: the big life changes
If you have any good buddies around, enlisting a helper might be a good idea. The last time I had to move a bulk of toys I had just a single friend help with the packing and sorting of them coming down from shelves, and it really helped with morale and staying focused.
If it were me and we are mostly talking those mixed up bins, I would start by emptying them and laying items out into 3 groups: Keep - Sell - Maybe. After that you can put the definite keepers back in the bins and out of the way while you sort the other stuff, plus you'll have a better idea of all you have.

 Re: the big life changes
I would say don't make any rush decisions with your sales. on the other hand, whenever I sell something, I rarely miss it, and actually feel empowered over my collecting tendencies. I'm sorry life gave you some lemons, but I hope you can ride this out and come out stronger!

I am so excited to see your name pop up Pickleloaf! Sorry to hear that life has changed . I hope things get better for you soon. As hellscrape mentioned, don't make any rushed decisions! I faced a similar challenge awhile back, and I do miss some of my toys, but it did go to a wonderful cause. Good luck to you, and I hope to "see" you posting under happier circumstances soon!

 Re: the big life changes
first off - sorry you're going through this shit. I went through something similar mid 2012. I probably have a lot less toys than you though!
If you can, before deciding to sell stuff, I would figure out where you're going to be going. It may not be as small as you think.
Also, if you're going to be on your own, you inevitably will have more space for your stuff. This could mean more display space.
If you do need to sell, do as others have suggested, split into groups - keep, maybe, no. Definitely have a friend help if you can

doing things in the heat of the moment leads to rash and regretful decisions - glad you took some time out before sorting
hope things work out for you

 Re: the big life changes
I'd also take into consideration what you may or may not easily find again. Selling something now that may not bring in much income might not be worth it if it's a really hard to find toy with sentimental value. Same goes with something you may like that might bring you in a bit more cash- but can easily be found down the road again.
Sorry to hear your issues loaf, are you being kicked out of your home? Moving sucks AS IS, moving while in turmoil really fucking sucks.

 Re: the big life changes
Try to take your time going through stuff. I am sorry that you are going through this. I went through something similar and there are a few things I regret letting go as I cannot replace them. My best advice is, if you hesitate on the item at all, don't get rid of it, you may regret it later.

 Re: the big life changes
Wishing you all the best, man. Sounds like a lot of big changes, but I hope down the road at least, something really good can come from it for you.
As far as toy decisions, the "put them into piles" idea sounds like a really good one.

 Re: the big life changes
Really sorry to hear about your recent bout of troubles man. I hope it is not something that lasts, and you can move on soon and to better things. Having moved quite a lot, I know the challenges of this. I absolutely detest packing, even just for trips, and have had to go through mass toy pack-ups by myself a few times, one of which was recently. I know all too well how stressful it can be, and certainly does not help what can already be an overwhelming situation already. Having been where you are, especially heading into unknown life territory, my advice is to take it one day at a time. I know that sounds overly simple, but it helps. And keep friends/family close (even when they can't be). As for the toys, most folks have addressed it well already. Take your time and do a little bit each day if you can. Try and avoid the rash decisions, because you don't know what might come back to later on. Nothing is really irreplaceable, but no sense sacrificing more than you have to either. If you can, get some help, even if they might not have the knowledge - they might be able ot gauge your reaction to a toy, to know whether it has any importance to you, which is always more important than value. And don't forget there is a whole community here to help you out in any way you might need, with advice, discussions, ranting boards, whatever. Probably even some locals out there willing to share a beer with you and lend a hand if needed. Might as well make use of what you got!

 Re: the big life changes
Damn, is that a Keronia that you stripped and painted for customising, or was it a flesh blank? Shucks. I think I am dying a little inside as I have been trying so hard to find one of those.

 Re: the big life changes
It must be one of the blanks, those painted ones are pretty hard to find, unless I'm mistaken.

 Re: the big life changes
I am sure you are right, I just thought I would ask (to torture myself of course) because this was an old stash of toys. Even the blanks are hard to come by these days. Yuji killed these guys, and I cannot have enough Keronia figures in my life.

 Re: the big life changes
^^^ I always thought that the painted LB guys were on blue vinyl. Never had one in hand to confirm, but we can ask Linda! Time was those fleshy fellas were always around... time was. pickleloaf wrote: will storing some totes of vinyl in the attic for a couple months hurt them? it gets cold up there but not freezing I've always found that a little cold never hurt my toys - unless you try to play with them at that temp. Summer in an attic is what you want to avoid!

 Re: the big life changes
Cool I may move them up there then
I rarely stripped painted vinyl unless it was something I tried to sell and never did. Keronia was a flesh
