Post Appropriate time frames before opening a claim with PayPal?
Anyone have any advice on what the etiquette is? I am hoping it was a simple mistake and I received someone else's toy and they received mine. But, so far no response from the board member and they haven't logged in for a few days. It wasn't a ton of money and the toy isn't ridiculously rare, just one I had looked forward to receiving. Just curious how long we should give someone to respond before just opening a claim. Thanks everyone for your input!

In my humble opinion is usually pays to give the seller the benefit of the doubt for the maximum amount of time that you're willing to. Even some of the most trustworthy sellers can seriously lag on mailing sometimes. On the other hand, you don't want to wait so long that you can no longer file a claim with PayPal, so find out what the deadline is, do your best to politely inform the seller (without making accusations or threats) that you're going to be compelled to file a claim in lieu of the toy being sent. That way, if you do have to foliow through with the claim, you can have the confidence that you weren't being an impatient hot-head. I had to do this once ... evidently several people had filed claims and PayPal was ready to permanently suspend the seller. That shook him up a bit and I eventually received the toy and was able to withdraw the claim.

Opinions will always vary on what's reasonable. I've heard of people taking two years to send something that was already paid for. I also had someone get mad at me for taking a full week to mail a toy despite my letting him know that I was sick and wouldn't be able to make to the post office for a few days. His belief was that the toy should have been boxed and ready to go before I even put it up for sale. To your own common sense be true. :-)

Thank you sir! I figured I would give them a few days to respond and then message them again. I assume it was just a simple error and hopefully it'll be corrected. I always try to be reasonable with my online dealings and for the most part (95%) I would say everything runs smoothly. You just run into that 5% once and awhile and it is just a bummer. Thanks again for the advice.

I think there are so many factors involved in making that choice. First an foremost if you have a open line of communication going with the seller then wait as long as possible before doing it. You have 45 days so I'd say don't even consider it until 3 weeks in. That said- if the seller is NOT communicating with you at all, despite repeated attempts, and this goes on for close to 3 weeks maybe sooner. I know some people are slow to ship and things/emergencies do come up but unless they're dealing with a death or in the hospital themselves there is no reason they should be shipping something out 3 weeks later.

The only other thing I can think of it overseas shipping. I know I've had a record recently take 32 days to arrive from the UK. Sometimes things just get held up in customs. The only bright note on that is me and the seller kept a good line of communication going.

Definitely can understand slower shipping, especially if I am made aware of a possible delay. I am a patient man, according to my wife :), so I can usually wait it out. My problem here is I received something super quick (looks like a homemade resin figure of some sorts) but I bought a Halloween edition fight figure mash-up. That is why I am hoping it was a mix up and they messed up on shipping the right pieces to the right people. *fingers crossed*

Since this seems to be a case of simple toy shipping mixed up, why don't you contact again the person who got your toy and have it sent to you and you send their toy to them? Then the problem is solved except for the additional postage.

There is nothing wrong with saying who you had the transaction with here in the thread. You aren't attacking someone or calling them out. Accidents happen. I've had the same thing happen to me before. It's pretty likely someone else here will be friends with whoever made the mistake and may help you clear things up even faster then a simple board PM would.

Filling a claim would be a last resort in my opinion.

Unfortunately I don't have the other parties contact info or know who it was that was involved. There was only one item for sale. Again, this more of just out of curiosity. The board member reached out to me and it sounds like we are going to be able to get this sorted out though. I wasn't trying to jump the gun or anything and wasn't planning on filing a claim anytime in the near future. Just wanted to make sure I followed the board protocol is all.

I'm in a bit of a similar situation. I paid for an item over two weeks ago and I barely got one reply message on Friday with tracking and an apology for the delay(due to work). Understandable. But now the tracking number isn't even registered with the post office, which means the shipping label has been printed but the package hasn't been dropped off. So I'm having to wait even longer for that and/or a reply.

Sometimes the tracking number just isn't a reliable service. I just recently experienced this with the Alavaka Midnight six release. I got my confirmation with tracking number for 2 days I would constantly check the tracking number on USPS and all that was shown was "Electronic shipping info received" on the 3rd day it finally changed stating my package had arrived at my local post office and was out for delivery. So it probably never got scanned by usps on pickup.

Hmm. That's a little comforting knowing that's a possibility. I suppose more patience is required. Two weeks of waiting and only one response kinda makes it difficult, I will say!

Any updates on your situation, Danny?

Yeah man, the seller reached out to me yesterday and said they were going to get it taken care of. Says it was a mix-up in shipping, which I figured would be the case. Hopefully it'll get sorted out soon. As for your situation, USPS is a mixed bag. They are either terrible or awesome. I got a package today, from Boston, that was shipped Saturday.. how I dunno. But something from California, same shipping service selected, hasn't reached me and it has been 5 days. Go figure and good luck man! Hopefully they just missed a scan..
also this sale has you all over it
