Paypal Account Hacked by Unknown eBay User. Check Yourself!
Hello my peoples.
So I just received a new credit card and was updating various accounts, when I noticed in my paypal account, that it was linked to an ebay username that I have never seen before. And no telling how long it had been there since I hadn't needed to update my account for a few years now.
The user name is : bart_wbd
bart_wbd comes up in google as the user name for a few different sites, but I couldn't find any reported sketchy behavior with it, nor is it a user name registered on ebay anymore. I mean, if something was going to happen with it, wouldn't it be while the ebay account is active? Just hoping I missed a bullet here...
Of course I changed it, along with my password, and scoured the rest of my paypal account to make sure all was well, but now I'm left wondering (1) how it got there?, (2) is my paypal account compromised?, and (3) I sure hope to hell it's not worse.
I haven't noticed anything else odd in Any of my online accounts, but after having my ID stolen once, I know these guys can be super sly.
Man, I'm hoping I don't have to go through that mess again.
Has this happened to anyone else? If you haven't checked the details of your paypal profile in awhile, you may want to. Definitely a surprise.

 Re: Paypal eBay Hack... Maybe?
Hmm exactly what section of your user account did you see it in? The new paypal layout is so frustrating and annoying (and the very reason I hate mobile layouts). It's almost impossible to find anything even after you revert to classic because you're suddenly limited to just transactions.
Anyhow I'd like to know where to go to check on that myself...

 Re: Paypal eBay Hack... Maybe?
This happened to me last year, I didn't know about it until eBay put a hold on my account. Some seller in like Tunisia or something weird tried to link their eBay account to my e-mail. No money was transferred or anything, because they flagged it as odd.

 Re: Paypal eBay Hack... Maybe?
Lixx - I was about to come back and tell you, "Tough bologna, I must have hallucinated the whole thing". Man, It took me 22 damn minutes to find the right section again! And you know how?! By turning off the Mobile Layout Mode! These mobile versions are even more ridiculous using a minimalistic / large font approach on sites that are SUPPOSED to be packed full of account info, etc. This means that paypal's choosing not to show us certain parts of our accounts in this Mobile mode, and if so, how are they choosing what's important to share with us or not? I'd say finding out someone else had added their ebay name to my paypal account's pretty much Need to know information... No sir, I don't like it...
7 Lucky Steps to Check if an eBay account other than yours is linked to Your Paypal : 1) Log In to Your Paypal. 2) Click on "Wallet" (@ top, in middle). 3) Scroll ALL the way down & Click on "Classic Site" (@ bottom, on left). 4) It should now read "My Profile" in orange (in top, left corner). 5) Click on "My selling tools" (in left navigation square). 6) The Very 1st option (@ the top) should say "eBay ID". 7) Here you will either see an eBay User Name, or a line that reads, "Link my eBay ID to my PayPal account".
It's an easy edit to fix. Let's just cross those fingers that that's the end of the hacker's reach. Just to be safe, I recommend going through All 4 sections on the "My Profile" page.
BleedingEdges - That's Great that they weren't able to get anything from you. That gives me hope that I should be fine too. Especially since the eBay ID doesn't exist anymore . Looks like he might have been banned actually.

Thank you for taking the time to write this up and give detailed instructions. Nothin' like this should be taken lightly at all, and it's much appreciated. Thankfully I'm in the clear.

Re: Paypal Account Hacked by Unknown eBay User. Check Yours
Yeah, this new paypal setup is ridiculously stupid. Ha, it's almost like it was constructed specifically not to make sense... Maybe they're outsourcing to monkeys now. Not that I haven't seen a smart ape or two in my day, but then again, you'll never see me on a unicycle. In looking back at those directions I listed above, notice that I 1st say to go to "Wallet" before entering the "Classic Mode". If you go straight to Classic Mode it takes you to the transaction history (that you mentioned Lixx) and when you click on Wallet from there, IT TAKES YOU BACK TO THIS NEW FORMAT!.. Don't really get why "Wallet" is the place to find this info in the 1st place, but my main gripe is that if you're going to have information that's currently still active in the last format, then the SAME info should be accessible in the new layout. Buncha poopsmiths. BUT, I am glad to hear nobody else has found a hacker parasite hiding among them. Hopefully "bart_wbd" not being on ebay anymore, and me changing my password saves me. Lixx - Haha, so funny you brought grits up! This is sooo the best weather for em, but I Just recently came to the conclusion that I desperately need to cut back on my grit intake. I suppose I've been clean for about a week now. So throw down a spoonful for your homie, you bastard
