FUCK YES!
Here's hoping a lot of the original cast is back, and Lynch keeps the season tight plot-wise. Season 2 went off the rails but was still better than most TV before or since.

So does the Lynch/Frost crackle tag!
Damn, the right folks back at the helm and Lynch is directing the whole run! Now I just have to keep myself from reading another damn word about it for two years.

Just realized, asking Lynch to keep a plot coherent is the epitomy of an oxymoron.
What you're really hoping for is that Lynch keeps hold of the reigns himself- season two only suffered because ol' Dave was off making Wild at Heart for most of it.
I'm super happy but then again, Showtime - that sucks, we don't have it here ; (

Re: twin peaks 2016
Yeah, I know the 2nd season derail was due to Lynch's lack of participation. That was evident as soon as you watched those episodes.
But I don't think he's done anything that could be called coherent since season 1. Not that I mind, mind you. I love a good percentage of his work past and present. Even Inland Empire was mildly amusing. Lynch/Frost know the television medium demands a different level of cohesion though.

Apparently they're going with Showtime because someone who they worked closely with on the original series is over at Showtime now. They'd have a bigger potential audience with Netflix, but I've got Showtime so I'm cool with it.

Re: twin peaks 2016
As a hardcore fan that watched religiously when they originally aired in the UK, i could be very cynical about a new season after all this time. I'm not going to be negative though . . . i hope its really great
I'm curious too, whether any of the old cast will make a return?
The show ended with Bob possessing Agent Cooper . . . "How's Annie?" Does anyone know whether the new season will follow on from that point or not?
I assume they aren't doing a 'prequel' because that was essentially 'Fire walk with me'.

Re: twin peaks 2016
I completely missed out on Twin Peaks because at the time, I had an attitude about the direction that Lynch was taking (and yes, I know I was wrong.) Friends excoriated me for missing out on a Major Cultural Event but oh well. I recently tried watching "Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me" and just couldn't get into it ... BUT I'm really excited about this revival. Lynch's Transcendental Meditation advocacy is totally cool by me but he's been conspicuously absent from film and TV for far too long. He scares investors but I'm glad someone trusts him to do this right. Hm, to review the original series before the new one premieres or not? ...

Re: twin peaks 2016
You should really have a look at season one, Dean - it's a fantastic six hour movie that was unlike anything that came before it. At worst, it will catch you up with about 9000 cultural memes and show you the templates for a significant amount of programming that you've enjoyed since it's '90 debut. Dead serious.
I'd never argue that season two was a faultless enterprise - much of it could even be called terrible - yet even the many missteps are interesting, and I'll call the whole span worthwhile for the way Lynch himself stepped in and closed off the first third; and tore open the scabs at the end.
It's kind of too bad that you gave Fire, Walk With Me a whirl without living through the series itself, both because I can't imagine it being very penetrable as a stand-alone, and that so much of what the series slowly unfurled for you is treated as a given in the prequel film. Hopefully you've forgotten much or all of what you saw!
Speaking of the film, I had no idea about this until yesterday:

Oh all right.
I just saw that it's available for streaming on Netflix. I'll give it a shot with an open mind. If I like it maybe I'll try "Fire Walk" again.

Wow. Oddly enough, I am a huge Lynch cinema fan (Eraserhead, Blue Velvet, Lost Highway, and Wild at Heart immediately spring up as long-time favorites) but have never ventured into Twin Peaks. Can't say why. Even my friends who find Lynch's other stuff to be too esoteric/surreal rave about it. I should probably get to watching it soon...

You just publicly admitted to enjoying The Strain; if you don't watch every damn episode of TP, like 'em or not, then I promise to save up for a ticket to SF just so I can give you a proper whack upside the head!

I am over the moon about this news. I'm an unapologetic Lynch fan boy. Love everything he does. Although I still haven't seen Elephant Man, Dune and a Straight Story. So I guess I can't say everything yet...
Glad its on Showtime too so it can have an edge if need be.

Oh yeah!?! Well you just publicly admitted to seeing Dune 11 times in its original theatrical release! (That's my pre-emptive whack back.)
Seriously though, at a more mature and accepting age I anticipate liking TP very much. I'll share some thoughts once I've seen a few episodes.
