Animation (hoping for feedback/opinions)
Well, I'm not sure if this is the right sub-forum for something like this, however, I'd like to share a recent 2D animation show reel and get some feedback from skullbrain members who are into this kind of thing. Please take a look here: https://vimeo.com/117148284I'd love to know what people think, I'm always looking to improve. Once again, I'm not 100% sure if this is the right sub-forum so apologies if I've put this in the wrong place. If anyone else is into animating, maybe share some of your work here? That would be cool.

Pretty stellar reel man! I don't necessarily do animation, but more so motion graphics and primarily video editing, and I think your reel is really solid. Good endtag and nice collaborations. Hope you get some calls in the near future with that work!

Thanks for having a look guys!
@I Am The Fourth: Are you by any chance the artist who drew those Rampage Toys header cards? If so, I am a big fan of your work!

Hot dang, I really like your work! My favorite had to be the villains on the floating blocks. Great 3D-yet-2D feel to those. I dabbled very briefly in animation... and by brief I meant I took a pre-college course on Flash Animation at Parson's in NYC. Didn't really click and I ended up dabbling in lots of other things. High school was a confusing time.

Hey thanks! Those monsters on the platforms are my fave part of the reel too. I am a skullbrain member though, so a love of monsters is basically a given. Speaking of Flash, that's the program I used to make those little guys.

Looks great ! I have no idea how you do it ! I think my favorite part is the dancing girl that go's by in a second. Grooving around to music in her house. I guess I just like the happiness to the scene.

Re: Animation (hoping for feedback/opinions)
I'm glad to you like that part! One interesting thing about animation is that people always respond strongly to scenes with emotion (like the happy dancing girl) and not very strongly to scenes which are simply animated with a lot of technical skill. It's been a long lesson for me to learn since I always obsess over the technical side more than the pure "feeling" of a scene. I'm glad I included that shot in the reel!

Haha I guess my eyes pay more attention to the technical aspects, but you're right the feel of the scene is more important! I really liked the hair follow through on that air guitar at the end! Air guitar, kid stomping the castle, and the skeleton on the floating platform (great stagger on his arms) we're my favorite bits! That water drop in the info-graphic section was nice too!

Whenever I do my "animation" its all After Effects (some bits over at http://instagram.com/magicalsleepoverfriends ) I guess I approach it more as motion graphics, as that is my background. But I hear Flash is the way to go these days in terms of animation and doing stuff of that nature. I mean hell, a majority of cartoons lately on TV are all Flash based. I also need to get with it on the 3D. I have Elemental 3D, and Cinema 4D, but have yet to really put forward the time into modeling and animating something other than text.

Re: Animation (hoping for feedback/opinions)
Good stuff for sure! My favorites were the children's book style kids playing together (kid stoping the castle), and the flatter looking block head people.

Your animations are cool man! I really like the first-person dungeon crawling loop. I am waayyy into that kind of game, roguelikes too of course. Playing Demon Gaze on the Vita lately, I'm really glad some developers still keep the genre alive. Flash is a good piece of animation software. Some people will tell you otherwise, but in my experience those people don't really know how to get the most out of the software. It has some quirks, for sure, but once you understand them you can actually exploit them to your advantage. Worth learning for sure! I think it could go pretty well with the kind of drawings you make. As for 3D, one day I hope to get into it too. Too many cool things to learn and not enough time! @TiredChildren thank you for having a look and commenting!
