You'd have to think he's using completely innocuous veg-based paints, so I don't take issue with that aspect; in India elephants are often decorated with such paints for festivals. At the Indian festivals, tho, it's done in the spirit of reverential adornment of one of our planet's most majestic and noble animals....to take this poor guy, who had no say in the matter, paint him like wallpaper and place him in this lame environment....it sucks in a few different ways. I've really liked everything I've seen of Banksy's up to now, and love his prankster spirit......I get the "point(s)" of the piece, and I'm sure to Banksy's mind it had to be a live elephant, rather than an uber-realistic sculpture of one....but I don't like this.....

You're right. So painting him up and relocating him to a warehouse to help you make a statement must be ok then?

The bottom line is that this is wrong - Bansky or not.

What can I say....I do tend toward some very unfashionable, non-po-mo sentiments, at times....

Unfortunately, I think the Circus should be banned in Amerika.

If they didn't have a history of severely mistreating animals, I might disagree as I do have fond childhood memories of going to the Ringling Bros and Barnum and Bailey circus.

But they do mistreat animals....I'm not too keen on seeing live elephants painted. Even if the animal was painted with vegetable paints.

Bad, bad humans.
