Soft Vinyl Mayhem 2 - Artist List

Sun Jul 05, 2015 5:06 am

Derphead and myself are holding an introductory exhibit for one night only on Friday September 11 here in Brisbane, Australia - introductory in the way that nobody here knows much about sofubi but people who have seen bits and pieces obviously flip out about what they see before their eyes! We want to share the toys and try and build a community here down under - and being so close to Japan it makes sense that there should be more collectors here.

I've only approached Japan based artists - but if anybody in the USA/Uk/wherever is interested in showing their soft vinyl pieces please send me a PM and I'll send you more info. We have some ideas to work around the relatively short time to prepare something before the end of August deadline to have pieces over here ;)

Interesting! If you manage to get Gargamel down for a show I might have to book some flights. Best of luck with making your show happen.

Thanks :) we have Gargamel in our sights for sure!

It took a while to sort out a venue and the logistics of everything but we are all set to approach artists with all the information they need. So far we have heard back and confirmed participation from Cometdebris, Shirahama Toy, Trutek, Uamou and Gumtaro. It should be a fun show - we want a mix of high priced customs and lower priced blanks to help people around here get a taste of the hobby.

Just waiting to hear back from some artists over the weekend but here's a taste of who has confirmed that they will be participating (these are just google images - not pieces from the show). People are craving an event like this in Australia - some toy fans are already planning flights! Could open a window for some toy guys to book spots at some of our comic conventions in the future as well :)

That's the Mailer Demon by Double Haunt - who sculpted the Cheestroyer.

We want the show to be an opportunity for Australians to grab toys in person but we also want it to be educational for new collectors so we are going to hopefully have a wide range of vinyl to show (marbled, glitter, gid etc) along with uncut pieces. We are also hoping to show the original clay sculpt for Baargus so that will be a big part of Double Haunt's involvement.

Good to see an event here in Aus. Even if it is over 4000 k's away  I might even make the journey.

Super great that there's an event like this coming to Brisbane. I would definitely, definitely go but I'll actually be in Tokyo at the time of the event. Kind of bad timing for me I guess!

Anyway, hopefully lots of Brisbanites/Australians go. I'm going to push my friends to check it out. It would be great to get a more established sofubi fanbase here!

Hopefully you do, it would be great to have a mini SB meet down under! I know of a couple of board members who are traveling up from Sydney for it.

Jason and I still can't believe it! We have been so lucky to have such a strong group of artists sending pieces in for this first (of hopefully many) show. :)

Don't normally venture outside the sale thread haha, but I've been seeing this on your insty. I was the one complaining that its not in Sydney haha. Shame its not on a Saturday night as I would totally drive up after work on Friday to come check it out.

Document the event well dude, hopefully you can make it a yearly thing.

Ahh I'm sorry Phil! For this first one we had to do it on a Friday night as it is in a retail space and it fits in with late night shopping on Fridays here. Chances are we will be looking at a bigger space for next year.

We will be taking heaps of photos and I'm trying to get a buddy to film the event as well :)

Make sure the event is well photographed for those who can't make it! :)

Should be a ton of photos for everybody to look at.. hopefully a video as well!

Toys are starting to land in Australia - here are some of the pieces that have been revealed so far.. Everybody is putting so much effort into their work for this, we are absolutely blown away by it!!

Everything will be for sale for people at the show first, any leftovers will be sold online afterwards. There are a few people flying up from Sydney, Melbourne, Adelaide etc so there might not be much left but I'll post a link here before we put up the online sales so that SB members get a good chance.

Man I'd love to come but the 10 hrs on a plane and $1000 for the weekend, not including toys is really challenging me atm.
