Post Non-glass display cases?
I've gone through the different display case topics here in different forums and there is one thing I don't see talked about. I want some kind of display case or something that isn't glass and can close or open. I get too much natural light for a detolf to work or anything really with glass. So I am thinking something wood or metal with doors that I can open at night to look at my toys and keep closed the rest of the time. I am just not sure what to look for. Someone said it would be some kind of armoire thing? I have no idea but I am not after anything fancy or overly expensive, just useful. Feels stupid keeping toys in boxes and having to dig them out just to look at them. Any help would be much appreciated.

I believe there is also uv blocking adhesive film you can get if you are worried about sunlight scorching your toys in a Detolf.

Armoires and wardrobes are big and bulky. Not sure if it's ideal to display toys? I did see some wall cabinets on Overstock:

Not as bulky as wardrobes, but if you have a lot of toys, then it might be too small. I've walked through IKEA and saw some nice wall cabinets. Some of the kitchen wall cabinets and office wall cabinets might work? You'd probably have to use a system of risers for the deeper cabinets. Good luck!

So you want a fancy wooden box to replace your cheaper cardboard boxes?

Awesome help so far. So much easier then looking for a bookshelf with doors like I have been all month so thanks everyone.

Mr. Humphreys some of those wall cabinets look great. It's odd because unlike most people space is not an issue at all for me so I can go big and bulky but I don't own a ton of toys so one big wall piece might be enough.

Funny.

I just want to come home at night and be able to open up my whatever case or cabinet to see my toys then close it in the morning before the sun does what it does. Plus it's fun arranging them all too. The room I would be using has direct sun exposure all day long through dozens of windows. Not ideal for any kind of art or toys.

Would it be an option to get a solid case with a glass door and just cover the door during the day (e.g., with a thick dropcloth)?

Unless you can find a cabinet where the doors fold back or something, I think they might get in the way when you open up the cabinet for display.

Oooo! Great idea! :D I might have to apply that to my situation. A nice thick tapestry would be nice, or perhaps a Japanese screen, or embroidery panel? Good brain! :P

That is a pretty damn fine idea. I actually have three empty detolf cases just wasting space. I can probably build a wood frame to cover the sides and the tops all together then take your advice and make a drape/curtain type cover for the front. This should be fun!

I did something like that at one point with blackout curtains.
