Really, is there any more to say?
Ali, Clay, however you saw him, he was an incredible force not only in the sports world, but for the impact he had on the cultural zeitgeist of the past decades and the backdrop of the civil rights movement. The man was called a legend by Mandela. Even if you were not a boxing fan, you knew his name, and likely what he stood for.
It was incredibly sad to see such a giant of a man crippled by Parkinson's. As much as I remember his fights, I will also never forget the moment of him lighting the torch in Atlanta. And I hope it really brought to light that none of us are beyond the tragedy of neurological disease, and why supporting research is so important. His legacy will far outlast us, and this fleeting moment in time, but it is sad to mark his passing.
The Greatest. RIP.
