Post I'm in consumption OVERLOAD!!!!!
SO MUCH STUFF BEING RELEASED. Toys and clothes and shoes and SHIT!

I NEED NOTHING OF IT, yet I am compelled to digest it all like that obese guy in Monty Python's Meaning of Life! I'm going to explode soon and Kaws Dissected Companions, all over print hoodies, and Jordan Grapes are going to project out of my bloated tumid, materialistic nothingness of a body.

ARRRRRRRRRGHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!

I'm starting to get fried. I'm also starting to feel like a sucker by all these companies constatnly releasing bullshit. Fuck it.

Anyone else on the boat?

Not Western but Michael Lau has a big weekend ahead . . . lookin' like a shitload of new stuff being released! . . . As well as the Dissected Kaws (with the promise of multiple colourway nightmare), Mr Flynn hinting that S7 are gonna be taking it up a notch next month, the new Gargamel addiction and missing out on the Gold Skullwing at retail

It's all got me hunting round for shit to sell . . . . and coming up empty so far

So many boards and blogs are saying Michael Lau will release the 12" toys. NO HE ISN'T. I am going on Friday to the opening and he is selling the shoes that comes with a 6" fig. The rest of the 12" are on display only.

As for toy, clothing, records, video games, CD, DVD consumption, I swear the postman is giving me strange looks as I am getting stuff everyday from him, in an array of assorted packages.

I hear what you're saying, man. Sometimes I feel I spend half my time either buying new possessions or trying to organize the ones I have in my limited space!

An interesting experiment is to box away a bunch of your things. Don't look at them for a few months. Soon you may wonder why you even still have them. I went through that a few years back when a lot of my stuff was in boxes (*uber* limited space).

I guess at the end of the day one way to think about it is the acquisition of possessions isn't really that important or all that difficult. What's important is enjoying what you already have, as well as the process (not just the purchase itself) of picking up new things and integrating them into your collection (or warddrobe, home, etc).

Better to have a small collection that you enjoy than a massive collection that's just a burden and possible gateway to umpteen "what's next" headaches...There's too much good stuff out there. Hard to focus, but also hard not to...

thanks for the lesson in life

No, but for real, I appreciate your advice, but I already live in accord to this mantra. I'm just frustrated with the entire system of this market/lifestyle. We don't even get enough time to enjoy what we buy! Maybe its because it has gotten so out of hand due to a massive growth of fans/consumers/ aftermarket douche chills. It has become like this: If you aren't there right when it goes for sale online and snatch it up right away, without a shred of hesitation or financial concern, you miss out and have to pay often triple the price of retail. It's wack. It's not what attracted me to this lifestyle. It's also uninspiring... Which is the worst of all, in my opinion.

I went through this about a year ago. Forced me to reevaluate what I collect and concentrate on the Pieces/series I really love. Only problem is, right now I'm at a point where not much is being released or at leased not enough for me. So I'm beginning to expand what I collect again. Anyone have any old underdog toys they want to let go?

Its impossible. I have decided to just get 1 or 2 examplesin a favorite color scheme of each thing I like and keep it at that.

I am sort of trapped with Kaws and BXH cause I allready had complete collections before this years expansion and on those I am biting the bullet and forging ahead.

I sold my SB collection the month they came out with like 8 releases all at once. I could see the writing on the wall...get them all and no ohter things or remove the jones and be balanced. i went for balance. I cant spend 1500 a month on j toys, just cant do it consisitently.

even after selling like 400 toys last spring I still have like 3000 or more pieces...and each week sees me adding 2 or 3 to that pile even. some times i wish my girlfriend would just let me sell the whole entire thing so I could start over and be more selective.

on the western side of it I am picking up the occasional weird thing like I enjoy Javis he has a giant troll coming out that is cool. and that new pete fowler skull fly thing.

Probably if I asked, but I dont like asking for freebies. i'd rather pay and help the process. everyone hits him up for free stuff, give it all away no mo company. Hikaru did give me some free stuff, but at a certain point its just tacky to take more.

Its a habit left over from the music days. I allways paid to go to shows in order to suppport even when it was like, bands on my label playing.

No, I agree. I always offer the bands that I work with to pay for their stuff too. I was just trying to gain insight as to how it works for an industry insider. I wouldnt assume its all free, but at least cost or retail. It's kind of peculiar to think of you bidding on BXH stuff on ebay.

i have that same feeling of one day waking up and all my toys, records and shit disappear. Then the stuff won't be controlling me anymore... I can take a break, relax and rethink what I should collect.

I have said to my wife so many times "I wish I can just throw it all out" but after a few hours I am on eBay again.

Getting freebies is never the same as buying it. I got my xBox 360 with 8 games for free from Microsoft and also some toys from local designers.. and I really don't appreciate it as much since I didn't choose to buy it and pay it with my own money. And pirated games here are easy to get, and you end up buying 10x more games but I never really play them as I would if I bought the originals...

Kinda odd, but an interesting insight.

I think because I get very few freebies, I really do appreciate them way more.... If I regularly got a lot, I would probably feel differently.

I am also totally feeling the overload component, and have been for a while. October looks like it will be particularly onerous (look how I describe that? I love the new relaeses, but ....). WIth working, and chasing stuff, it seems that there isn't enough time to concentrate on the real things in life. Collecting sneakers and reading hypebeast exaccerbates the problem - for those of u who just collect toys, imagine trying to keep up with all the sneaker too. Sometimes I think that the govermnet must love the fact that we have no free time, its like they are free to do whatever they hell they like, and no one even notices.

If Frank sold up for the reason he states, then that takes balls. Its like going cold turkey. Right now with mortgage payments, medical bills and the rate my debt is increasing I definitely have to make some changes.

Wow. It's good to know that other people feel the same way - I have this vile completist nature, and it's constantly a battle to keep it under control. The only things I've been buying lately (toy-wise) are SB and various GID stuff, but luckily it's so expensive (that sounds strange, doesn't it?) that it's harder to impulse-buy. And, especially after SDCC, my credit card bills are ridiculous.

Also, not to be a snob (though Janet says I am) but 99% of Western stuff just puts a question mark above my head. It seems like there's an increased lack of pickiness (for lack of a better term) - it's fine if other people like it, but much of it mystifies me.

its really easy for me. i know there is no possible way to keep up with releases. i simply do not have the money. partly because of our wedding expenditures. mostly. entirely. actually after we get that paid off, things might not be so easy to resist...
damn.
