rattanicus wrote:Cool! I actually went to Georgia some 5 years ago and went crazy for the music! My band became friends with Zedashe, a group that sings ancient polyphonic songs. My girl (& piano player for my band) just got back from her 3rd trip there; she can't get enough. http://www.zedashe.com Here's one of my personal favorites. What a voice.
WOW, Rei! So cool that you've been! I would love to go... this music hit me so hard the very first time I heard it. I have always loved polyphonic singing of all sort, but the Georgian stuff speaks to me in an especially deep way. A choir came here to VT about a year and a half ago and I had to miss it! Won't happen next time!
And thank for the links... what a voice, indeed! Will check out more from him!
Right on. My first night there I was crying to the music, so imagine how I spent my entire trip there! Beautiful; I'm definitely going back in the near future... Also, there's the "city" music that I love as well; posted a video here in the previous page
I like almost any genre of music. Good music, is good music in my opinion.
I don't even know where to begin!
My favorite musicians under the rock umbrella include Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, The Misfits, Sepultura, Pantera, Nine Inch Nails...
In the last couple of years I have really enjoyed Ghost. It's like I have found records from the 70s I missed.
Hip-Hop favorites are Wu-Tang, Nas, A Tribe Called Quest, Gang Starr, Mobb Deep, M.O.P.
I like lots of old pop, funk, soul, jazz, country you name it...
Just discovered these guys Yesterday digging through some Japanese Jazz Fusion. If you dig Pleated Pants, Floral Prints, Video Games, Japan and a late 80's view of the future you might want to check these guys out.
My taste is music is all over the place but I mostly listen to hardcore, Gorilla Biscuits is my favorite band if you couldn't guess from my username and avatar. Some of the other stuff ive been listening to lately is...
Best Coast Chvrchs Weezer The Smiths Kayne West Piebald Turnover The Stone Roses
^^heh! thanks man. brings me back as well! I rarely stray from doom these days, but when I do, its usually a nostalgia trip I'll check out your suggestion for sure, thanks!
The new Public Image Limited record - I'm psyched to see them next Thursday in So. Florida. It's nice to see that Mr. Lydon actually seems to be enjoying himself these days.
I mainly listen to CTHC, NYHC, WMAHC.... Then I also dig classic 70s funk, death metal, and Japanese rock n roll from the 60s-70s!
Some of my favorite hardcore bands:
Sum Of All Fears (mid-90s CTHC that is super fast- lead singer went out to Cali to start a pop punk band :/) Cornerstone (same era as SOAF, straight edge CTHC) Fastbreak (staple of CTHC) Madball (everyone knows them) All Out War (NYC metal/core but not actually full blown "metalcore")
I cant get into the western coast hardcore, like "Ignite"...it just lacks the intensity that was started out here.
