 LED lighting for Detolfs?
So, I just got my first Detolf, but don't have any lighting in place for it yet.
I wanted to see if anyone had input regarding alternate lighting for Detolfs, other than what Ikea has available. I would love to light it with a non-heat-producing device, like an LED lamp, if I can find one that will fit/work. I'm also thinking about running a 30' length of white LED rope lighting up and down all the corners.
Hit me with your suggestions- thanks!

i was thinking about getting some of these for my detolf
http://www.amazon.com/Sylvania-DOT-it-Self-Adhesive-Bright-Light/dp/B000CMGXPM
I don't know if i like the idea of having to open the case every time i want to cut them on though.

holy crap ungawa, i was asking this same question today as i am heading down to ikea to grab a couple detolfs tomorrow.
I think making some LED spotlights may actually be pretty easy.
I was poking around on instructables.com today and i think there ought to be enough info on there to make some.
i found this and it may be a good starting point:
http://www.instructables.com/id/E8JJFNPO2CETVPMTVP/
or this one about making led lights for shelving:

I've seen pics of someone's collection where they used a white rope light with their Detolf. I can't remember who it was, though. (I think it was someone on KR.) It looked pretty cool.
I use white rope lights on the back side of my shelves (so I don't see them). They produce a pretty cool backlighting which works nicely with clear figures.

Don't do this one. I bought these kinds of lights and opening all three cabinets everytime is really tiresome not to mention the usual toppling of the mini figures. I just don't turn them on anymore.

I thought they sold lights that fit right into the top.
sure, it's just one light on the top... but...

They do, but they only offer halogen lights, which get pretty damn hot...I'm trying to find an LED system to use to avoid vinyl cooking.
Thanks, everyone, for the suggestions; Bryan, I think you’re right- DIY may be the way to go- thanks for the links!

The standard Ikea halogen lights (I forget the name but they are the black pucks with silver plastic cover) only have like 8 watt bulbs. They produce very little heat - you can only detect a bit of warmth from about 2-3 inches directly beneath them. I have a Bigaro on a riser about 4 inches directly below one light and his head is not detectably warmer after several hours under the light. The thing I like is that I have them on a switched outlet so all I do is flip the wall switch and presto.

I looked at it. I'm not a fan, but its simly a matter of personal taste. I just don't like how they look. If you like it, that's all that matters.

Soooo.....for now, I ended up buying 5 of these "DOT-It" AAA-operated LED touchlights by Sylvania.....I gotta say I'm diggin' 'em! I have two of these little pucklets affixed to the inside top pf the Detolf, and the rest nestled in here and there on the shelves among (and nicely hidden by) the figures. It looks cool...and I mean that kinda literally: the icy-bluish LED light defintely gives the whole affair a sleekly clinical look. The case is in a room that gets a lot of natural light during the day, tho, so they have all day to look cute and appealing...and all night to look

hey Donnier,
you never posted a link to the one you actually purchased which I think looks pretty good...
Ungawa,
I like how you put those puck lights on the bottom facing upwards...cool. I just don't like the idea of having to open each detolf every time I want to turn them on....i'm a lazy bastard that way...
