After asking and seeing others ask, one of the questions that pops up from time to time is where to eat near S7? After reading many different replies, most pointed to the “Resturant on the Bridge”, and that is the name of the place. So last Sat, a rag tag band comprised of Rhinomilk, Toybot Studios, MaDeRe, and Locomoco, forged forward for lunch at the Restaurant on the Bridge.

First off it’s hard to miss this place:
1: It is on the Bridge
2: and it has the Attack Chef sign



The restaurant itself is painted in bright colors, has wall-to-wall manga for patrons to peruse, and anime will be playing on the TV’s.




We sat quickly and browsed the menu, being the third time MaDeRe have eaten here, out first meal was the specialty curries, which were excellent, and plenty! I had the hottest, and still found it very flavorful and filling. When even I try someplace for the first time, I’m always a sucker for the house special. Second dinning trip was the vegetable Au grain, piping hot veggies and cheese over rice; the top was slightly crunchy making a good mix to the steamed vegetables and cheese sauce. MaDeRe had the Locomoco, and he found it a little band, but a huge meal. As whole the portions are very filling.



So now back to last Sat. I ordered the pizza, now you’re probably-saying WTF? But every time, we been here on the table is a small tag for “Japanese Style Pizza”, with a topping list that would have the Ninja Turtles screaming Cowabunga!
For our TMNT lovin’ sister, I went with the Chinese sausage, onion, and carrots.
The pizza smelled and look looked more tasty than expected, the pizza was more inline with a pizza pie, where the toppings where on top of a dual crust, then under the first crust layer was the sauce. On top of the toppings, were a little seaweed strips, which also added much to the overall presentation I would most definitely order a second pizza, and be a little braver on the unique toppings.



MaDeRe had the Katsu Don, and classic dish. He found it, pretty good... also a big meal... strong on the pickled radish. I was impressed with the generous portion of egg.


Rhino's had a pasta dish with row, as you can see it looks amazing and tasty!

I had the locomoco with tomato gravy. it was good, but I think next time I woudl try a different sauce.

I've never seen anything like that on the east coast...

This place rules. For starters I had japanese pizza w/cheese and a sprinkling of dried seaweed. For my main course I had the seafood spaghetti (epic!). Might have to head back up to SF again soon for more toys and food.

Pete, you guys need to bust out with a roadtrip the Weekend of Wondercon!!! March 2-3!!

I like that place! Ramos took us there and I got some kind of yummy baked casserole thing. I forget what was in it, but i remember liking it a lot.

Hard for me to not order some katsu curry when I'm there. I gotta hook up a pizza next time.

my pasta dish was goood. but i didn't expect so much eggplant (i think it was eggplant) and i picked those out.

I saw where Loco got his name from, this weekend. Although, I passed on that particular dish and chose my own curry combination with croquette, chinese sausages, and fried egg. I think it's called "Cardiac". Tasty, though.

Indeed. In fact I'm really surprised that most respondants suggested that restaurant-on-the-bridge as opposed to Mifune at Japan Center, a true San Francisco tradition for residents and visitors alike. (It's pretty rare that residents and tourists are equally enthusiastic about anything, but venerable Mifune is definitely one of them!) A filling meal for hardly any money at all. Don't expect good service though LOL ... this place is about noodles, not service.

Well I'll have to try the bridge place. For years friends have told me "don't bother" so I pretty much always go to Mifune or ... hm ... can't remember the name, but it's the restaurant where they horrific 1970's "you're in a forest" wallpaper and serve you way, way too much food. Sounds like my friends are out of touch regarding the bridge place. Maybe they're just afraid it'll collapse in a quake or something.

Whatever you do, visitors, avoid that sushi-in-boats place like the plague (or at least as you'd avoid Benihana.) They prepare the sushi hours if not days ahead and keep it in refrigeration on big racks. It's awful ... don't let the novelty of receiving your food on a little boat lure you. Best sushi in SF? Answers will vary but for me it's Ebisu on 7th Avenue when Suzuki-san is at the bar.

Also, visitors to S7 should make every effort to check out the bookstore in Japan Center. It's seriously wonderful even if you don't read Japanese. You might be able to find some toy fan magazines, but even if not, certainly tons and tons of manga and art books.

Well if you're keen on a reveiw for Mifune, i'd be intrested, anyone want to meet up on Sat to check it out?
