Just wanted opinions on this. I don't like to display toys in their packages, and now that I am doing the kaiju collection, I have a few in bags instead of boxes.

Is there a better way to remove them for display? Like toss the bag but keep the card at the top? just remove the staples in case you want to put it back in later?

What is the general consensus?

Take the toys out if you want to enjoy them, that's th point, right? Make sure you start to catalog your headers now, coz it's a I FART A LOT to try and figure it out once you get 100 deep.

Yeah, use like tweezers to gently bend the staples back, slip the toy out and header off, press staples back down and replace header in bag. I go so far to slap em in a folder, if you check some older threads some people get even more particular with it.


Or take a bite of that plastic and shred it bear style just to get that figure!

i never keep toys in their packaging, but then again i have never collected toys that come in bags

Organizing the headers is a great piece of advice. Having to go back and try and sort these out later on is a friggin nightmare - take it from me!

But what do you do about the staples?
Do you save your staples?
How do you know which staples go with which toy?

Since I keep the headers, the staples stay in their original holes. Just bend the staple straight, like with tweezers or something, pop the back end of the header out from the staple and remove the card, with the staples still stuck throught the front end of the card totally from the bag, than once it's out re-bend the staples back down. That's me though.

i throw the staples out and then store the headers in the bags.

i place them in a separate bag and put padding around them (so it does not scratch the header) and put it in the original bag. I then insert a small photo of the toy inside the original bag so i know which one it is. after doing this I place acid free backing inside the original bag so that they get any wrinkles during storage.

i opened 2 this morning that way. and as i was doing so, i discovered that both had been opened and restapled the same way

I generally like to tag each staple to ensure I know which one went into which side of the header card. I take pictures of each toy, date purchased, location, person, traded, cost, flipper value (updated weekly), potential for customization, rarity, I then upload all of this data into SQL 2005 and create cubes for OLAP analysis. that's just me though.

I gave up on organization a long time ago...it's too much work. I used to keep headers in photo albums but now I just toss them in a box.

I recycle them. Straighten them back up and put at least 10 together (not worth the trouble for any less) , line'em up on the spine of a small paperback book (26-32 pages works best) and a light glue job (Elmer's works best). Make sure you let the staple strips dry before putting them in your stapler, it'll gunk it up otherwise.

I've found that staples can only be safely re-bent an average of 4 times before weakening. To avoid the need to re-insert the staples into the original holes I have created a barcode system. I just cut the UPC labels off of cereal boxes, attach them to each piece with a small string, and scan them in with my barcode scanner. For example when I scan in a barcode it will come up with a code such as GMHPKS2006ESLS which I can easily use to identify the staple as the Gargamel Mini Hedoran Patchwork Kaiju Summit 2006 Exclusive Set Left Staple.
