For once the tables have turned from paying dearly for Japanese exclusives. These are up on Kaiju Taro for about 2X the stateside price.
(Hey, I'll take my small victories when I can!)

I was wondering what Biff was talking about. That's a Beantown bean:

The upcoming Beantown Spoon Racers and BeanBots are compatible with the Pheyden, Exellis, and Crayboth.

Well, I finally got my Gore (CDX) Sky Deviler...not because it took a while to ship--I just got around to ordering one this weekend!

Image

Let me tell ya: it's gorgeous! The pictures really don't do it justice. I love the clear/glitter Parasitic Phantom (Onell Design) version, but this one feels nicer in the hand. I'm not sure if it's because the vinyl is simply thicker or because it's opaque and glitter-free...but it just feels heavier and MUCH stiffer. The joints seem to slide better because of the slicker (less gummy) texture. Also, the colors seem to give the figure more presence.

Don't get me wrong--I'm a glow NUT, so I'll always be rocking the Onell version. In fact, I thought I wouldn't like the CDX version at all...now, ironically, I'm digging the CDX version a LOT!!

I couldn't help taking some shots this morning. The glare from the window glass makes for a cool effect that contrasts well against this bastard.

Gads, I got my Parasitic Phantom yesterday, too... Fantastic!! Of course, my receipt of said toy was perhaps less pleasant than Roger's: apparently, Sky Deviler, though dead, is my new arch nemesis. I wasn't expecting threats of violence along with my sofubi fix. How ironic that I love the toy of such a hated enemy. There WILL be a reckoning...

Anyway, Matt from Onell showed me a killer way to stuff more glow Glyos figures into this demented thing. Folks, I give you...GLOWIE SKELETON:

Basically, y'all probably know from the other thread on Onell Design's "Glyos figures", they can be pulled apart and put back together in other weird combinations. Well, if you buy a bunch of extra glowies, you can assemble yourself a skeleton for the clear Sky Deviler!!

Now, as Chief Glowologist of TBDX, I have to say that, while the red-glow figures are HOT, they're not perfect. Sure, the M.U.S.C.L.E.-esque pinkness drives me into near-homicidal fits of euphoria...and the glow is extremely bright and...well...extremely red...

But it is tragically short-lived.

This is what I was worried about. I've worked with glow paint from ReadySetGlo, one of many suppliers of the next generation strontium aluminate glow materials (as opposed to old-school zinc sulphide)...and one of their biggest shortcomings was their red glow powder/pigment.

As I found out by throwing some red glow paint on a shit-beat Toygraph 50% Mechagodzilla a couple years ago, the stuff just doesn't last very long. The powerful red glow will only give you about a minute of strong glow and after a few minutes, it's practically invisible in the dark.

The other minor shortcoming is that the red pigment used in the Glyos figures (and ReadySetGlo's hand paint) does not react to UV lighting. I haven't finished testing this out with the Glyos figures, but that's my initial feeling. I'll have more conclusive data soon...

Still, overall, this shit is tight. Folks, RED GLOW...red glow=gooder'n hell. That's all you need to know. No one else is doing red glow toys, so I have to give it up to Onell for designing such a work of art.

How can you pass this up!?

Now, all I need is a CollectionDX Gore Sky Deviler. Ironic that I write for them...but still haven't had a chance to pick one up!

Edit: oh, news of upcoming Vegetius is VERY nice! Thanks, ironking!!

Sanjeev, these are amazing pics. I need to get some exellis for my sky deviller.

Thanks for the comments on my pics, guys! Honestly, I feel like a little creativity in photography goes a long way...and shooting toys, to me, is basically my adult way of "playing" with them!

But in the end, big up to JoshB at CollectionDX and Matt Doughty at Onell Design for designing these guys and working with Kaiju Big Battel and, of course, Marmit to get them actually made! Excellent job, guys!
