Same thing happened to me. Do you use gmail? I seem to have that problem with it sometimes.
I have to admit I would've picked it up for my sister who loves spongebob.

120,000 bucks for a vector of SponeBob, not bad for a days work.

Gmail handles email weird every so often for me, I've had it from KAWS a few other bigger mailings, and sometimes even from other gmail accounts.
Not sure why this piece surprises anyone given KAWS paintings lately. Though I won't be surprised to see it show up in blue yellow dissected ... lol

I'm not sure what I was more surprised by, the actual artwork or its price tag. You couldn't pay me to own/hang a random red faced Spongebob print

Try 20 minutes?
-Scan image of Spongebob
-Change eyes
-Apply red filter

Oh and maybe another 10 to update the website and write the email. I'm sure anyone with basic Illustrator knowledge could get the exact same result.

I think Ryden's prints are expensive, but at least there's work behind them. This is just a joke.

Well, I actually like the print/painting. And even though I agree that the price is crazy, I can understand why it has been priced like that. Kaws has transitioned from the world of graffiti to fine art.

I will say this, no way would I spend $1,200 on that print but his painting skills are insane. When he had a show at Honor Fraser I was blown away at how perfect the paintings were. The lines and shading was perfect! It looked like it was all done in Illustrator. I took some close up pictures, I'll look for them when I get home.

I love Kaws. Some of his content I'm so-so on but most of it I really enjoy. To each their own.

The last time I saw prints on Kawsone they were the dissected series and I think they went for around $800?

I've yet to see a Kaws painting in person but I'm sure the technique and brushwork is so precise it's hard to appreciate in photos or print. I was blown away to see such minute paint strokes when I first saw a Murakami painting up close.

Post Re: KAWS
I find all the Kaws hating kind of funny at this point ...any of you guys know what kind of prices shit goes for in the fine art world he's been working his way into? Good luck even having a chance at getting something if you do have the absurd money they want. I once looked into prices for a Paul McCarthy (not McCartney) drawing - probably a year or two before he got REALLY accepted in the upper tier of art stars - and a small "drawing" of a few scribbled lines was around $35K. Look up his work, that's McCarthy's version of a Kaws T-shirt.

$1,200 is a fucking steal.

I don't like the print either, but don't hate the player...because the game is normally waaaaaay beyond people on this board getting a chance to buy a print directly from the artist. I feel like people think he owes it to them to offer shit for bank art prices.

Love him or hate him, he's worked himself to a different level while still "slumming" it from time to time. This debate is almost as bad as arguing about what art is. You can debate about it until you're blue in the face, but I once saw a McDonald's Big Mac container sell for a quarter of a million bucks because the market could bear that price - no fucking joke.

Stuff is just pretty and the icons are by others, not super interesting or ingenious beyond the original "trick" "joke" or "concept", its just famous kids characters receiving a very simple recurring modification (the kawsification). I have some kaws stuff and i think its nice. But changing characters is not any kind of renewal so it all is seeming to get a little old.

I've seen him paint with those quadrangular foam paint applicators, lots of info on the net on how to achieve that smooth clean look. I don't know if he vectors like crazy but all is stuff could certainly just be the tracings of projected vector drawings.

To me its nice decorative stuff but not particularly stimulating in an intellectual way. His 2d gallery/print work seems perfectly suited to decorating the walls of nouveau riche mansions of people with more money than good taste.

Very commercial illustratorly stuff good for making a living but will not leave a lasting mark on art history.

Just like 99.99% of the art made yesterday, today and tomorrow.

I seriously doubt many artists who make a living off their work give a rat's ass what mark they make on art history. The last time I had that conversation I was a teenager and I was REALLY stoned.

Post Re: KAWS
See, I see it as two different issues. I actually don't have a problem with a Kaws or Banksy or <fill in an artist's name here> charging whatever they want for a print. It's their livelihood and they should try to make as much as they can or want. I would even be so inclined to buy some of those prints if it was the right one (would def love to own a Kaws print one day), I just think this particular print is bad and not worth 1200. But that's just my personal opinion.

KAWS SB PRINT $1,800...
Comes with grocery bag and box...
bag may have slight crease from my printer.
Print has been behind glass since it was printed (in fact if you come to my house and look through a window, you can see it sitting on the table...)

P.S. If I see you looking through my window I reserve the right to scream.
