That was not only very well put but also just plain awesome. Make the toys you wanna make and to hell with the backlash. Express what you want to express. Best way to live your life.

i think the only reason there has been debate over this is that the facts were all put out there from the onset. if this would have never been disclosed i wonder if it would have been even suspected.

i do not like the color shown in the 1st pic but think the design is on par with everything out right now so fans will decide if it matters & i think its safe to say they have. imho once these are painted they will be fangtastic!

i did this quick 30 second edit of the original pic to see how this doll would look on black vinyl & this is close. sorry to MVH & Skinner for not asking if i could do this but you both probably know i am also a fan just like both of you!

if you do a solid black hook a brother up!

If the assumption here is that the only way people can dislike this figure is because of ulterior motives then it can also be said that people only like this figure because of brown nosing fanboyism.

C'mon now, just agree to disagree. I think some people dig it and some people don't. Stop the preaching and the psychoanalyzing. It isn't Jesus' gift to God or whatever was said before.

So you didn't actually read what was said yet are commenting on it? Skinner was being funny and having fun, isn't that what toys are all about? I specifically said if you don't like the toy, then fine. Frankly, why would I care? Rich pointed out that actual questions being asked and discussion being had was a nice change. I don't see anyone saying you had to have an ulterior motive for disliking it. Nothing wrong with discussing what people think about how it was sculpted and I think several people including Rich said so. Also nothing wrong with Skinner throwing in his two cents as one of the toys creators. I don't think a single person in here feels the need to convert you into a MVH fan but don't be surprised that people know you are not. Now FFS, back to the toy at hand!

In the end...I think we're trying to say the same thing but from the PM I received I guess some people are reading in between the lines of what I said. Whatever! :D

Alright, seems the good conversation this sparked is over and were back to flinging shit like monkeys.....

Any way possible to not totally detail this thread ?

We all got our points of view out and it's obvious who stand where. Great. Okay.

Blah blah blah lobster heads.

I love it.

Some may remember that I am one of the people who at first could not see anything special in the bemon 2-head, at least until Rich and others brought me around with their explanations.

I think Krawluss is amazing and do not care how it was sculpted, except as a curious side-note. I am happy for Rich and Skinner that this toy will be made and that it will be an open order, not an artificially limited release as is so popular with many artists.

Post Re: MVH x Skinner present Krawluss the 2 headed creature of
The concerns regarding digital sculpting, that it's too clean, static, charmless, lifeless, etc. are real concerns that are contended with every day. These are serious obstacles and a large part of the challenge of the work is how to use the strengths of a digital tool set while bringing over the immediacy and chaos that makes hand-sculpting so wonderful. It's not easy, and there's a lot farther to go.

It's been mentioned, but it's worth pointing out again. What's done here is only the first step to bringing this character to life. A mold will be made, and a wax master will be cast. Both of these steps soften and bring random changes to the sculpt. Then the metal molds are made, and the beast gets cast in glorious vinyl, a material that again softens and changes some characteristic of the sculpt.

Rich's army of characters is incredible and wonderful and inspiring to me for their rawness, detail, and obvious love that he feels for each one. Skinner's work has been kicking ass for a long time, it makes me feel like I'm an over-sugared, over-stimulated, too many horror comics and late night movies kid again, one who's ignoring class to doodle the most fucked up thing possible on the back of a notebook. That's a rare feeling to be able to get in touch with, and only a few artists can bring it.

Sure, whatever, I've done some sculpting, most of it isn't the kind of stuff that gets high marks here. Some of it's handwork, most of it's digital. That's just how it goes. Most of my drawing is greasy pencil and paper, or brush pen - very little, if none of it is digital. Just how it goes.

But man, when Rich asked me if I'd sculpt up Krawluss... I knew what I was getting into. Rich and I worked together, with constant feedback from him driving revisions. The key to this beast, and to any work that I do based on an artist's design, is that the intention and the vision of the artist carries through. Rich could have sculpted this, and done a phenomenal job, but his style would have overwhelmed Skinner's part of the design. Rich generously let me handle this, and my objective was to fuse Rich's and Skinner's halves of the design into a contiguous whole while keeping any influence of my own style to a minimum. This is the part of this work that I love the most. Making myself invisible and doing whatever it takes to channel the original designer's vision.

Both Rich and Skinner are more than satisfied with the way that the Krawluss sculpt turned out and that's good enough for now.

This thread is just like someone watching a movie about vampires and getting upset because, "a vampire would never eat at KFC!"

Its a vampire...

"Is this the real life?

Is this just fantasy?"

Creating monsters is nothing but playing jazz with body parts...

“Digital sculpting is a tool” I understand that.
“Digital sculpting is challenging the comfort levels of people and I rather enjoy that because what is art if it is not challenging.” I remember learning how to use auto-CAD.
“I see this toy as a great risk on Rich and I's parts.” agree

^^^Is this the same thing or different?
“C'mon now, just agree to disagree. I think some people dig it and some people don't. Stop the preaching and the psychoanalyzing. It isn't Jesus' gift to God or whatever was said before.”
“convert you into a MVH fan”
“pyramid style with spaces for mini figures to be” Silent Hill?
“Rich's army of characters is incredible and wonderful and inspiring to me for their rawness, detail, and obvious love that he feels for each one. I’m turned off by the digital sculpting because it reminds me of how Todd McFarlane toys are done. Thank you Grizli for chucking a bottle of water at him and telling him what you thought and informing me how he almost killed comic books.
I see Skinner in the head with hair and the blade arm but no where else. Rich, no offense but I see none off you in it… except the mouth on the other head and it being big. I also thought the new Ollie head on display at NYCC was unimaginative. Last thing why are people already talking about and accepting the idea of a new head for this monsta when the first release hasn’t even come out. Best of luck on the first release to you both! Slipstar where are you?

I must be missing something, all I see in this scupt is the Rich and Skinner...If someone would have pulled this out of a paper bag and shown it to me the first thing I would have said "Skinner and MVH"...I could give three shits if it were hand sculpted or digital, I buy things because I like them and to me this is a BIG winner!!
