Quote: ..speaking of Manimal...I hope his post on KR doesnt attract a whole bunch of people over here quickly, I switched over here when I started collecting Japanese vinyl and the smaller community is one of the parks of Skull Brain...
i dont think i instructed everyone to RUN over here to get on board with the latest kaiju craze did I? - ill have to go re-read my posts i guess
anyway - YOU ended up here didnt ya? and its fun right? so dont go worrying about everyone else coming over and filling up your clubhouse now. Everybody here comes from somewhere.
It'd be interesting to see if this is actually an April Fools joke from TOY2R or if its the real deal - only time will tell

there's a couple good things about Q,e,e
- they choose good artists to work with, a lot of asian and european artists we don't hear much about.
- the production quality is good. printing is way better than on duneys and the plastic itself feels nice to hold.
- they are the original platform toy for customizers, and their blank 8 inch toys are fun and simple to work with.
- there are a billion different ones

Now I don't know a thing about these Toy2r "Kaiju", but I will say that I enjoy Q-E-E. Uberboy brings up alot of the reasons why I like them also. I've worked with them on for their recent collaboration with Fox- they asked me to paint a Bart Simpson for their world tour, and they gave me the opportunity to have my first production pieces. I'm looking forward to having them released this summer.
That being said, I know that this isn't the place for any of that, so I wouldn't usually mention it.
take care,
Phil

depsite my previous comment I am a big fan of Q.EEs and prefer them over B.earbricks but not as much as Kubricks. Its an awesome canvas toy sculpt from back when that was interesting. I really liked the Hell-boy ones last year as well.

The Devo Q.ee that was released last year with the removable Booji Boy mask included (the Booji Boy mask is my avatar) was amazing! anyone who releases a Devo toy can't be all bad in my book...
edit: crazy that the board actually edits the word Q.ee sans period on it's own...with all the artists who are welcomed with open arms onthis board who have done one or many...why the ban on using the word?
I'm not crazy about them as a company...but i have some (like the Devo one) which I truly love...
just to test the expletive list ala Carlin: [expletive deleted], [expletive deleted], Kidrobot, My Little Pony, Mcfarlane...

The Mook's manifesto may shed some light on why platform toys are "officially" considered sort of uncool here. It doesn't mean that there aren't plenty of good things to be said about some of the artists who have participated in editions, or that their work is necessarily bad by any means. It's more about the relative soulessness of platform toys. As Brian once said "there are some things we just don't discuss here." It's a niche board.

I think it's pretty clear that toy2r is a business and nothing more, not that that's such a bad thing. As a be@rbrick fan I've always thought that [expletive deleted] were pretty shameless ripoffs. They do have the manufacturing business down better than almost anyone else making toys in China though.

I think everyone here has a valid point.
Raymond is above all a very shrewed business man. You will never see any QC problems because once a factory give him any problem he moves to the next one.
He works with some really great artist and some of them even make a few bucks from doing it.
I am completely phasing out Toy2R from my store for a few reasons. The biggest is, you can now only really get their product from Diamond, the largest US comic distributor.
I am very aware of where my products come from and if I feel that the company I buy from sees me as only a consumer I buy from someone else.

I'm tempted to offer up a pre emptive 'YIKES' . . . although I fear it is still somewhat lacking in shock and dispair.
