Thanks guys, here's the upper torso with jet intakes on the shoulders. He has a "flight mode" where you basically set him on his stomach and he becomes slightly aerodynamic, with fold back wings, leg tail fins and under foot blast ports.

I'll find out in a few days if the Jumbo size is feasible, otherwise I'm definitely looking to fund a 8 or 9 inch vinyl version.

love&poison, is that the singer from Suede in your avatar? My brother-in-law produced a bunch of their albums, Ed Buller. They are a great band, really nice people too apparently. I've never met them though.

New rough image from the artist doing the digital work, Charles Blanchard. I am loving it. I do plan on doing an all black vinyl (or plastic if it's made Jumbo) version similar to this.

Here's really old picture of us the first time I went to London...me on the left, Oi Oi!

He's a good guy, dedicated family man. Huge sci-fi nerd, loves Gerry Anderson stuff and is a great brother-in-law.

He has a prog rock band now called NODE that just played at Paddington Station.

Also- just got confirmation today from Unbox that a Jumbo sized figure is going to happen. The only obstacle now is me raising the cash.

Do you have an idea yet of what number you'll need to hit?

Not sure yet, I'm thinking around $20,000 or more (!) ..it was closer to 6,000 just for the original vinyl 9 inch robot.

I want to keep the retail price under or close to 200 dollars. I had a prominent Jumbo collector tell me people usually pay 250 or more for modern repros of existing characters, so we'll see.

I still think you should do a akickstarter. I think a tasteful kickstarter is nothing more then an open pre-order. Letting customers decide if a toy gets made or not is risky but there's nothing wrong with it at all. Whether you get our 200 bucks before you make the toy or after is a small matter.

Nice Docs and FP...classic look.

I agree with Waterbear, a "PreOrder" type kickstarter seems more than okay. Not like you are Marlon Rando trying to take advantage of anyone... Plus, this stuff isn't cheap to make and people get that. That being said, I hope this sees the light of day.

Thanks guys, yeah I think I can handle production costs with the first 1/3 of the total amount being sold at retail prices. I'm gonna do my best to keep the price as low as I can.

Here is a new image from the digital artist of a color mock-up. Our goal is to use no paint on the body which will be shampoo bottle plastic. The details seen here are metallic stickers. The chest shield is a separate piece of chromed plastic. The head will be the usual semi-soft vinyl and will be painted.

Right now I am looking into making a resin cast crew of 3 or more pilot/ground crew figures to go with some of the kickstarter incentives.

This robot has a simple flight mode, basically just put him on his stomach, fold the wings back and turn the legs so the fins make a sort of tail fin. Completely aerodynamic, of course!

I honestly think if you were able to add a small 2 to 3 inch version of this guy at a pretty low kickstarter pledge level you'd have a ton of extra success. Something scaled to fight the Unbox gummi figures of yours that everyone loves. It would pull in a whole new market and the amount of mini-figure collectors out there is huge on kickstarter. Plus people who don't want a jumbo but still want to help get this thing made would have a pledge level that not only contributes but gets them a cool little toy as well. Since the whole thing is a digital sculpt it would mostly be a matter of simple size reduction and choosing if you wanted injection molding for the solid rubber feel or even roto molding which would be much less expensive and produce a hollow vinyl mini-figure like the stuff a lot of us remember as kids. It would drive up the overall amount needed to fund but I think a mini would pay for itself many times over.

Have you talked to the place where Super7 made their jumbo Stormtrooper?

Slight revisions...more to come but nothing major

I have not contacted the Super 7 company that made their excellent Jumbo. My current producer, Unbox, is working with me on this. They know my situation / ethics and will do everything possible to keep prices low. All is going well, I'm excited. The box art is gonna be fun!
