Re: John Kenn Mortensen Witches
I love the original artwork and think this is a cool project, but the wonderful way they're huddled together like a single entity gets lost in the translation to 3D imo. Also, the middle witch looks WAY gnarlier on paper...

^ They are pretty rigid and heavy. More of a plastic feel. If you squeeze enough, they do give though... The colors look more muted in hand....the pic was taken in bright sun.

Re: John Kenn Mortensen Witches
I mean, is it just me, or is there a major difference here in the coloring of these two sets? I want another set so badly, with a lot more blue/purple. If anyone here got one like that and wants to sell, I would buy it. I love this sculpt too much to miss it completely, but I am terribly unhappy with the clay-brown color I got.

Re: John Kenn Mortensen Witches
Bummed for you...truly. My set definitely has more blueish/purple. I saw more predominately brownish ones in the various pics of group shots on the Unbox instagram, and was hoping to get something more like I was lucky to score. Such is the gamble with marbling.

Re: John Kenn Mortensen Witches
I am just sick about it as I was truly excited when I saw this sculpt and really wanted it badly. But I do not like the coloring of my set at all. I knew there would be variations, but I feel like my set does not have much blue (or for that matter, red) at all and has an overall unpainted muddy brown look.. It really seems to me as if the blue just kind of mixed with the red and became muddy. Only at the bottom near the feet do you see any real blue. Two of the witches are almost entirely this clay color throughout and only the third witch has noticeable blue/purple shading to her - almost all on one side.
I am disappointed enough that when I look at them all I feel is disappointment, knowing how much more beautifully colored other sets, like yours, are. I don't want to look at this amazing sculpt and feel nothing but disappointment. If I can buy another set, with a lot more blue/purple, I will use this set as a blank and paint it.
But i will be terribly upset if I cannot get another, more colorful, set. I was so in love with this sculpt that I stayed up the night when the pre-order was due to launch so I could order right away, I would not be surprised to find out i was their first order. I was that afraid to miss it. And now, with the set I received, I am upset to look at it. There is almost no color variation, no marbling, no blue/red/purple, just a whole lot of brown.

^^^^^ I really like the brown set you got. Just me, but I find it more "witchy" in the muddy brown colors. I totally missed out on these. If your disgusted enough to sell this set down the road let me know.

Re: John Kenn Mortensen Witches
The brown set does have a kind of "netsuke" look to it, but I really love color, particularly blue/purple, so am most disappointed I did not get some of that. The thing is - I know marbling produces variation, but I did not think I would get a set almost entirely brown while someone else got one almost entirely blue/purple/red. I kind of hate marbling for just that reason. They seem almost like a different colorway, not a variation in pattern. I thought the variation would be much more subtle.
I'm trying now to get an exchange. He is going to send me pics of another set, the only other one, and i hoping they will be better. But I'll have to send this one back to Hong Kong. I think it is his own set, so I would have to send this one back to replace it. It was very nice of him to offer that, so just waiting on the pics.

Re: John Kenn Mortensen Witches
Well anyone who likes the brown better and got a bluish/purplish set, I would trade in a heartbeat. I kind of hate brown. I love blue. If I had received the set Bitterpill got, I would be raving about them.

Re: John Kenn Mortensen Witches
I will try to take some pix of mine this weekend.. took a quick glance and remember one of them having the more blue purple thing going on and the other two were more brownish orange.. either way I love all the colors, brown, orange, red, blue.. these witches totally rock no matter what..

They looked grey to me in the original pic. Pretty ugly in brown. Glad I decided to wait.

Re: John Kenn Mortensen Witches
it almost looks like a nice copper bronze type shine in some strange way on the ones in Cindy's pix.. I love how all the colors in the hands and teeth pop out.. you could always have someone throw a BLACK RUB on them Cindy... or any other customized paint job you want to get the exact vibrant prettier colors you would like to see them possess..

Re: John Kenn Mortensen Witches
I'm not familiar with that - a black rub. How can it bring out a color (like the blue, for instance) if it simply is not there? Forgive my total ignorance here....

Pretty sure he's just saying he wants a different color to be released and not talking about your set at all. White vinyl with a black rub would look amazing and be pretty close to the original art as well. Or even black vinyl with a subtle white rub.

A black rub on the figures you currently have would just shade all of the cracks and folds- it could provide a nice contrast, basically, for the coppery brown tone to pop out against. There are actually a few relatively subtle, easily accomplished things you could have done with what you've got, here, that could make them more interesting, finish-wise.
