Re: Retroband
FATer Ollie lookin forward to seeing this. I know theres been a lot of back and forward about unbox production methods... Does anyone know for sure how they manufacture their toys? People say its soft but not sofubi, are they machine molded or done by hand, i dunno what other questions to ask. Just curious if its made more like how Chinese "western" vinyl is or....? If theres a thread i missed, my bad, hit me with a link. Thanks

People say its soft but not sofubi, are they machine molded or done by hand, i dunno what other questions to ask. Just curious if its made more like how Chinese "western" vinyl is or....? I guess I can speak from experience having worked directly with them on the Cheestroyer. Of course when we were looking at production for the toy we were deciding in between Japan and China, eventually deciding to go with Unbox in China. Different colours of vinyl have given us different results for us - GID and Flesh vinyl have felt very similar to Japanese sofubi, maybe a little dead/lifeless than genuine sofubi if that makes sense? Chear vinyl and a light shade of pink were very squishy and had a clammy feel to them. The joints are plugs rather than (for lack of a better description) the "rimjob" style joints that you get with sofubi. I've only seen similar types of plug joints on Cojica releases. Cheestroyer's shell which is about 3 inches long has a little plug in the centre less than an inch in diameter. I can't imagine how that would be pulled by hand, which leads me to believe that parts are machined. However I can't see a seam line on the shell either so I'm not sure how the mold works for that piece. I was surprised after hearing this figure was sculpted by hand as from what I've seen about 80% of their figures are digital sculpts. However most of those are lecensed toys done in studio.. it's upto to the artist how they want to supply their sculpt. The Cheestroyer was sculpted by hand and we sent them a resin copy to use for tooling. Hope this helps??

If theres a thread i missed, my bad, hit me with a link. Thanks I can only speak to the material used - it is definitely not Japanese soft vinyl, although it really does feel quite similar. However, my office smelled completely awful for several days after receiving the B&W set of JKM's "Three Witches". Wherever the origin of their vinyl may be (for the JKM release, at least), it is not the usual type of vinyl that we know and love. My nose knows the difference, without a doubt.

Re: Retroband
MEATS Is a ton of fun.. The sculpt, be it by hand or 3D whatever, is very impressive. The details are smooth and lumpy, pretty nice size without going overboard, just nice and bulky. Lovin' this guy

Re: Retroband
I seriously did not expect this figure to be as large and beefy as it is, and it's damn impressive. Aaron and Unbox did such a great job with the figure and paints. Can't wait to see more and eventually own one myself(hopefully)!

Re: Retroband
Just sat down and read the most recent clutter issue and there is an interview with Aaron of Retroband, and he mentioned that he hand sculpted the whole figure. great figure and love the story behind the figure, looking forward to future color apps.

Tried for it on the 2nd and saw 7 people posting within 10 seconds, but at least Rich is already bot-proofing drops 3-5 (sort of).

Re: Retroband
I'm not looking for any violins to break out as I know it's just part of the game but yeah'.. it can be a little discouraging when you are gunning for at least one or two figures and come up short on every front. Obviously I need to read up on the Bruce Lee ping pong technique and incorporate it into my keyboard skills.
