 Re: Kaws x Wonderwall Figures
As entertaining as this is....keep in mind that these are all people's opinions and if you don't like the piece then you don't like the piece. No need to make blanket statements and say the item and all the people who like it are to blame for Haiti or whatever. Take the exact wording for most of the criticism here and direct it at the "popular" things on this board and they would make sense as well. For example I see people criticize a "Western" toy for being overpriced for having "only" 3 colors and then they turn around and praise a blank GID whatever that sells for $60 retail. People outside of the toy collecting world would probably have a good laugh at small pieces of vinyl with spray paint on it that sell for lots of money.
With that being said, I love small pieces of vinyl with spray paint on it but I also know most of my friends and family would not. I don't think any less of them as many people here seem to imply that I should.
And with that being said, I personally think the Kaws piece is shit. But that's just me.

 Re: Kaws x Wonderwall Figures
H, I totally see your point and that is what I was trying to get at. I would like to see people explain why they like it more often. I don't see what Haiti has to do with the conversation at all. There are more important things to discussin the world, but in regards to toys people are definitely welcome to like what they want. I'd like some input why though. I don't think it's brought up enough here. At the same time, though, I really think that I can say with definitive confidence that this is a piece of garbage. And people should expect that from others when a bad toy is made. While we're at it, I also think those nag nag toys are terrible, as are those blobpus dokugans. the entire cronic line is lost on me, and the new full sized rxh figures are just weird to me and i don't like them. I'm not discriminating because it's Western per se, I'm making a statement based on fact in my head. It's crap.

I think there needs to be more explanation of both praise and disdain here. I thought we were all in agreement the Haiti situation was caused by voodoo and a pact with the devil. Coincidentally the same formula Kaws used for success. (Please don't stone me, I'm 100% being sarcastic about Haiti, not Kaws, but Haiti.)

 Re: Kaws x Wonderwall Figures
I never said this piece was great. Or even OK. In fact, my initial argument had nothing to do with the piece at all.
I was responding to a fellow poster who insinuated something I took offense to.
I have a great deal of KAWS stuff in my home. And while I do not own every single KAWS piece (either by choice or by my inability to afford...4'), I consider myself a supporter of his work, either financially, through purchase of his work or via my attendance at gallery openings, and I can assure you none of my predilictions are based upon hype. I neither read those blogs nor do I post on message boards overrun by teenagers. I base what I purchase/collect on personal preference only. This is why an ignorant statement like "all KAWS fans are sheep" or "those idiots will make sure this sells out in 30 seconds" is so offensive to me.
I don't get RxH or Secret Base, either. Neither can carry Gargamel's jock, IMO, but I am not calling any if those collectors "sheep" or "hype-driven," mostly because I understand it's all about personal taste and preferences.
I'll probably buy one of these walls and see what Le Merde can do with it. Not that anyone gives a shit, or should give a shit.

I also have a decent KAWS collection, but I completely agree with the "those idiots will make sure this sells out in 30 seconds" statement. Maybe not 100% of the people that will buy this are idiots, but the percentage is high enough that the statement is apt.

I'd enjoy seeing which [expletive deleted] he (saiko?) has in his collection... Kaws Vader, Kaws Trooper, and Rebels. What the hell does my collection have to do with this....haha! Relax and have a beer!
