Maybe try going for more of a crouching/fighting pose? Right now he's just standing up straight and looks relatively harmless. I want to see a crazy sumo wrestler who's willing to fight anyone/anything :)

Since he will be a larger figure, there are some limitations to the angles we can produce, but he will be pretty mean looking ;)

See this stuff is awesome... Ideas like this are great, and some i've already thought of!

So, basically, this toy will look something like a big Sumo Two-Face when/if it gets sculpted?

I think it might be cool if the mutation wasn't precisely symmetrical.

Again... Another good idea that has passed through my head... I really like things that are bisected tho, so to me I find it pleasing.

Such a charmer...

Anyway, I'm sure this toy won't step on any toes, in terms of IP. And for the record, I would prefer a neutral pose, rather than an action pose. It's a toy, not an art sculpture.

I like the idea a lot. I do agree that it's in its very early stages, so that may make it difficult. I would say keep updating it with pictures of the t-shirt design and sticker designs. Also a more finalized illustration will definitely help. Maybe add an option between $50 and $100 for just the figure and no sticker/shirt pack? Hopefully this gets made.

Skinner > D-Who?

I'm still in a good place after SDCC but time for a reality check!

There were some truly appalling vinyl travesties present this year, including a few in the DTA's, and this seems to be heading down the same slippery slope.

Skinner, Lulubell and Siccaluna have all worked for years to build up their reputations and credibility in their respective fields. Thanks to an alignment of the planets and a whole lot of hard work, a collaboration was born that would have been pretty difficult to f*ck up!

I don't want to rain on your parade but comparing the two scenarios is crazy . . . IMHO if this warranted development you woulda had considerably more positive feedback.

I may start a Kickstarter project to fund buying out Kickstarter and putting an end to all these shenanigans . . . anyone in?

I concur with the gentleman from Yorkshire.

I'm a believer in the concept of Kickstarter and have fully funded projects myself. Even though I am working with people I have known for a long time, I still treat the situation like I'm a bank and they're looking for a loan. In other words they need to have their paperwork in order and be prepared for me to pepper them with questions. Don't expect to get money for just a concept and nothing to look at. A simple sketch that is admittedly far from the finished product would not sell me on it. You need finished drawings and better yet, a sculpt or 3D rendering. If you're Skinner or Siccaluna you get some slack because you have a long resume but even in this particular scenario they were working off of a character in a finished painting.

I recommend going back to the drawing board, fine tuning it by getting people's opinions, and then preparing a marketing plan before going back to Kickstarter.

Hey I just wanted to chime in by saying that I think you have to find some way to have him crouching... Even if the only way to do that is change his proportions somewhat... If those crazy cats at SOTA can produce an E-honda toy, (way bigger than the Neca line, I might add) Than you should be able to get this guy in fighting position... Unless he's just a half mutant with a glandular problem and a shitty barber, he should be positioned the way sumo wrestlers, fight.... Just my opinion, I'm just thinking of what I would be persuaded to buy if I saw it in say TRU... That's how I judge most toy purchases, at least ones on the internet. Yes Japan vinyl is a game changer, but Touch and sight are two different senses, and for me both need to be addressed.

Funding for this project was canceled by the project creator 28 minutes ago.

Hopefully this gets developed more and re-submitted

Don't worry. This project is not happening anymore.... Many of you are to thank...

I'm sure most of you will be pleased as punch...

For those of you who actually supported me.. Thank you...

Also, I was not comparing myself to skinner in any way... It was merely a joke, as everyone was like "fuck this thing if it's a bust, but we don't know, so we'll buy all of them anyway"

You can let this thread die now... Nothing more is coming of this...

Post Re: Rikishi Cancelled
yikes, got a sobering dose of reality from this thread.

I know i'm new, but i've been here long enough to see D-Lux take quite a few punches on this board of late, I hope he takes it on the chin, soaks in the good advice, ignores some of the bullshit and comes back stronger.

I thought his video was solid and honest. I'll admit I hadn't backed the project yet, mainly because i've only known about him as a really strong painter/customizer and all of the rewards on his KS were unpaints. Part of me felt that, if I was pre-buying, I would have liked to have had his skill as a painter applied to the figure I would land up with. Maybe that's a mistake with my point of view though. i was trying to get something out of it rather than back something as a donator i.e. to help someone realise something. I think ultimately, this is the route down which KS has gone -from donation based to prebuying - and i think it won't come back from it.

This example also exposed another one of the negatives (for me anyway) on kickstarter. I would rather make something in my vision and plonk it on the table for people to complain or applaude, rather than open it up for death by a committee. At least then I could hide behind it if people started chucking rotten fruit at me.

Keep the faith D-Lux. blow off some steam and get back to it when you can. You have the talent, you can make it happen.

Post Re: Rikishi Cancelled
I honestly think that it's sort of juvenile that you, D-Lux, would allow people to influence you so strongly that you would cancel something that you envisioned, and even went as far as commencing a kick-starter about. Perhaps there were other underlying reasons that you cancelled? Whatever the impetus for cancelling was, I really believe that if it is something you're passionate about doing (toy making), then you shouldn't need to worry about those who disagree with what you're doing. However, I will say that I think the aesthetic of the toy is (was?) a bit bizarre (nonsensical even, especially when it came to the foot/hooves things), I believe though, that if you're persistent you could completely accomplish something worth kick starting, and I really believe that adding some incentive (i.e. HP's, and whatever else), when the time comes would really help your cause in terms of gathering people willing to fund your endeavor. At the end of the day I just really hate seeing someone have their spirits crushed especially about doing something creative.

Post Re: Rikishi Cancelled
People always say, chill out, you take this too personally, etc....

Let me ask you this... Shouldn't I take things personally, doesn't that show my love for what I do, or try to do... I take it personal cuz I care, not because I'm just some asshole with an airbrush and a bigcartel store...

The people who had issues with this project all had valid points... VERY valid points... Which only partially contributed to me cancelling this figure for now... Other issues did arise, and to clear them up would have sacrificed my vision for the figure, and what I wanted to put out, as well as my level of involvement...

I in NO way cancelled this due to what people said... Granted they made valid points that up until recent issues, made canceling a better idea...

For now I will be focusing on the boxes of commissions I have to finish, and quite possibly my own self sculpted, and produced figures.

All I wanted to do was make a cool figure, and in the end it won't happen right now. I have no ill feelings towards anyone. I'm just a passionate person, so I take things on the offense... Deciding to end this project was not out of hurt feelings, or rush, angry decision making. It was a clarity I finally came to see...

I appreciate all the comments, concerns, support...

I will be doing other things, this project is just done with for now...

Whatever, dude...not every idea is a good idea.

This idea was not a good one...at least not good enough for people to invest their money in. So what? Move on. Have another idea...and another, etc.
