From there it goes to a sculptor who does all the work. I know most people use other people to sculpt their concepts - but their concepts look like they actually took a bit of time. Take a look at your sketches that you post on your forum...beyond those, what do you do? Or these Mao busts - do you just tell someone "Put a nicked set of Mickey ears on him and stick a cig in his mouth"? .
Meh, this is seen with countless "artists" in the toy scene. I think shit like Dummy designs that some people freak out over are REDICULOUS. Looks like they gave a template to a 5 year old that doodled on it, slapped the word LOVE or HAPPY in the title and you have a hit for $50. Frank clearly found something with a less is more approach with the eyes and cig etc.. not much different then Kaws and anyone else putting their simple but effective trademark design on a figure.
Does this mean I like all the designs...no haha. But more power to someone making a good living off it.

I don't know you from adam, Frank, but a good friend of mine, presently entrenched in Relapse's accounting dept, was a BIG fan of your label back in the good old days and always had good things to say about you and your business.

i don't know why everyone who says they don't hate is busy saying that everyone else is hating. (doesn't that make them haters too? lol)
i know i'm not the only one who feels like i have to constantly hear about how everyone of this message board is hating on people publicly and vocally.
and where does honest criticism fall in here??
it does exist, in case people have forgotten cuz they're so busy pointing their fingers at who can be labeled what.
when did this place get so goddamn black and white?

hold a sec...i was just inquiring as to when peoples dislike towards Kozik and his artistic integrity/ethics.
I'm not hating on haters. And on top of that. I dont collect Koziks stuff...I don't even have a BXH labbit. I'm not pointing any fingers. I was simply making an observation.

i think frank is a fucking genius. i wish i could dump my last name on some toys and make thousands of dollars. sure, I feel a lot of his shit is uninspired and kinda lame, but there's obviously people out there buying the stuff! The original bxh labbit is classic. the mao's kick ass.
this series does nothing for me.

Peanut butter on the other hand saved my friends ass after she went to Tibet (I think) and fasted to cleanse herself, but couldn't hold down any solid food went she was ready to eat again.

You have to understand that something like Mongers is meant for a different group of people than say the Mao, or the [expletive deleted] toys or the Ika.
I am trying to do a variety of styles, release numbers and price ranges.
You may not like any of them but I am trying to do as many different things as possible to see what happens.
in a years time there will be like 50-60 different sculpts out there in 4 or 5 different 'categories'.
Also, something simle like Mongers, that sells really well makes it finacially possible to take a risk on something as weird as the Mao.
Quite a bit of time and money went into the mao, with no idea whether it would sell or not.
Luckiy, it has sold very well, for what it is.
sure, If I was independently wealthy I imagine i would just make giant insane things with 100,000 dollar price tags, but thats not reality for me.
so I hedge my bets, and over-all, it's all been pretty good.

I have been thinking abou this lately. I collect house music (and I use "house" in the oldest sense of the word; meaning just about anything with a drum machine and no gutiar) and many artist use pseudonyms for different styles of music. They do it so people who like Drum and Bass don't buy their techno records. It is confusing but it seems to work well in fact many times their fans don't even know about the other styles of music. I wonder what would happen if Frank started dropping toys under other names. What would have happened with Kaiju for Grown ups if they never told anyone who made them?
