Post Babe Bunyan by Scrappers
Nice one Justin!
Image
Babe Bunyan by Portland artist Scrappers is the first toy from Grasshut. Scrappers has painted Babe Bunyan for several years now on whatever surface he could get his hands on. A mixing of two mythological figures, Paul Bunyan + Babe the Blue Ox, the character is a tribute to the Pacific Northwest – the land of the lumberjack. Keeping things local, Babe Bunyan was cast in plastic by PDX-based toy maker ARNE.

To celebrate the impending release of Babe Bunyan, Grass Hut will release several hand-painted customs including pieces from Bwana Spoons, Martin Ontiveros, and Le Merde himself this Friday, June 19th through the Grasshut online store. To get on the list to purchase a custom email the passphrase “I Love Babe Bunyan” to grasshutcorp@gmail.com.

Yeah, but that paint looks like it's going to clog the articulation. Doesn't look like the torso could be twisted.

Very cool figure and cool concept!

Only quibble is with the back-story: Paul Bunyan was born in the midwest, probably Michigan, with the earliest stories appearing in the Detroit News. The stories were adapted from oral histories of the 19th-century northern logging region around Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota. Other areas of the country with "trees" and lumbering (e.g., California, Oregon) subsequently recognized a good marketing tool and attempted to adopt Paul and Babe as their own.

Whatever the origins, Paul and Babe are great characters and are definitely worthy of recognition via Scrapper's new figure.

True...this was pretty much the case with all of his customs from the We Are Brothers shows. But hey...

I was going to mention this, but you beat me to it, thank you. Being born and raised in Michigan, we Michiganians have to ensure that our mythological creatures stay put. Paul Bunyan and Babe are definitely ours. The Great Lakes are Babe's drinking ponds, after all.

Come on guy's we're all American's [A bunch of us are] I couldn't tell you what town in Mexico the Chupacabra lives in but i know he's Mexican. and I'm not sure what prefecture Rodan grew up in but i know he's Japanese. Paul Bunyan is Americana. Just like Big Foot, Mothman, Flatwoods, and Gary Busey. I Read up on his mytho's like everyone and I'm in NYC, Our Great out doors is a sloppy park in the middle of Manhattan. But i consider him part of my heritage. Or am I wrong?

A friend of mine saw a Gary Busey on a logging road in Northern Alaska. It punched a moose, threw up, and ran away.

Psst..Everyone has a Gary Busey story. My grandma swears she saw one as far back as 1923. But no other eye witnesses so she could be making it up.

I saw Paul and Babe once when I was a kid. I think my parents still have the pics...

And I found Gary Busey droppings in my backyard once when I lived in Oregon.
